waking at 4.30am and refusing to go back to sleep!
« on: February 21, 2008, 14:16:14 pm »
Hi All

Posted about millie's stupidly early wakings a few weeks back (was 5-5.15am). She then got ill again and had a cough/cold so i just went with it til she was better. She did 2 nights when she slept til 6ish - yay! But the last 2 days she has woken at 4.35am and refused to go back to sleep. Have ended up just getting her up but i am so tired. She's been refusing to nap in her cot too so has to have buggy naps. She's been kanackered by 10am and have had to give her a short nap and a longer one later (around 1.30). She's in bed and asleep by 7am.

So at the mo, she's doing:

4.30 wake
10.00 nap 20-30 mins
1.30 nap 1-1.5 hrs
7.00 bedtime

What can i do to stop this??? Would it be worth trying w2s, had success with this when she did short naps as a younger baby.Or do i try earlier nap/bedtime??

TBH i will try anything if it gets us all a bit more sleep!!

I've had a look at your previous post... she's about 18mo???

I am wondering if the little catnap is causing the early morning wake ups, along with her now starting to want to sleep in the pram???

What I would probably suggest is try to keep her up until at least 10.30-11am & let her sleep just that one nap (so don't wake her up) and then do a very early bedtime (something like 5.30pm the latest). Then over a few days start pushing out that nap closer to midday. Hopefully you should find that she's waking up later and later & should go back to her 6ish wake up time.

I would probably stop the sleeping in the buggy thing... I'd go back to sleep training in the cot.. so do wi/wo

hth a little

Thanks Layla

Was planning on doing this today but went for a bath at 9am and came upstairs to find millie and my bf fast asleep on the floor, doh! She also had to have her MMR today so is now asleep in her buggy  ::)

No plans for tomorrow though so i will try and keep her up til 10.30/11 and hopefully she'll be so sleepy that i will get her down in her cot OK and then aim for an early bedtime.

Will let u know how it goes....
