What happened? Updated to much better!
« on: February 21, 2008, 22:19:25 pm »
Since 5 months, Charlotte has for the most part been a great sleeper.  Pop into the crib, shh a few times.  Maybe a couple of WI/shh/WO.  More of the same with the toddle bed that we started in Dec.  The last several days for naps and bedtime, she WHINES when we go to leave, then crys when we leave.  Very difficult to settle.  Monday night it was 2 hrs of fussing/crying/WI/WO/put back in bed etc.  She finally crashed with me sitting by the door from exhaustion.  She did have RSV last weekend, still coughing.  New SA?  Maybe the cough med?  It's never done that before.

Good a reason as any.  I'm also seeing MAJOR defiance lately.    >:(  Dave is taking us to dinner.  I would rather he take just her and I need a break.

Something I wish I'd known before having DD2 when DD1 was 2 years 4 months is that 2.5 years is a very typical time for huge bedtime battles.  So there you go... it's developmental; she'll grow out of it (and back into it, unfortuantely), just make clear rules and a very predictable bedtime routine.  It also helped us a whole lot to make her bedtime wind-down really long, so she got lots of good cuddles before bed.

(And be thankful you don't have a 2 month old at the same time. ;D ).

Thanks Sabrina.  I think.   ;)  Is she gonna grow out of it before I go stark raving mad?

Sounds like dd at that age.  Extra long winddown and plenty of cuddles helps in the sleep department and some wi/wo.  I hate to say it but it was the beginning to the no nap transition for dd as well.  Hope this isn't the case for you.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!  She can't drop the nap!!!!  When she skips it now she conks out about 4pm.  Sitting in the dark at the moment waiting for her to fall asleep.  Maybe SA and defiance go together in some way?

We're going thru it too Jenn :(, even the cough part. I did find some nighttime cough syrup that helped us get some sleep last night. I was finding the other medicine with the antihistamine was making her more hyper.

~~~~~~~~~~sleep vibes to you all and some for mommy's sanity~~~~~~
Weird, if I try to leave, I get WHINE.  Progress to crying, then SOBBING.  I stay, she giggles and plays, so I leave for a few seconds.  Come back before the crying starts.  Then she settles and lays quietly.  Falls asleep shortly after that.  It's soo weird because last week I could do stories/snuggle/singing.  Pat her butt for a few seconds, then tell her I was leaving.  No problem.
Still the same.  I can get her to sleep if I stay in the room with my laptop.  How long do I keep this up?  I also reintroduced a cd that knocks her out cold usually by the 4th song.   8)  If I add that to the bedtime routine, things should get easier.  When do you I should try the leaving while she's awake again?  I really don't want this to become a habit.
Update: Seems she goes down for Mommy only.  I tried leaving while awake last night and she freaked.   :(  I have 6 nights to get things fixed somewhat before I work a couple of evenings and Dave has to put her to bed.  HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
