Katt- then how'd you meet Martin??  And does L speak Danish and English?

Laura-  why so knackered?  Ollie and Amy giving you a run for your money?

Not sure that this 20 min catnap will work, as M is miserable when she gets up.  And she only slept 34 mins after I tried W2S at the 15 min mark.

As a matter of fact, I'm miserable too.  I don't think this kid will ever take a decent nap!

We had a great night- in bed at 6:40pm, lots of rolling around and WI/PD but asleep at 7:10pm, and then woke this morning at 6:42am.  Maybe the catnap is working...

Now if I could just get her to sleep more than 30+ mins, I'd be happier.

Leslie, that's great  ;D I am very confident that the catnap works, I also know that waking your LO after 20 mins seems so wrong especially when they are miserable but it wont be forever. 34 mins is kind of an improvement isn't it? Remember to be consistant and do the catnap again today and M will soon realise she will only get a refresher in the afternoon and hopefully that AM nap will lengthen soon. I know you already know our story but that AM nap with the catnap turned things around for us and now dare I say I have a champion sleeper  ;) Who would have thought it 6 months ago!?! As you can see the catnap tends to help with a later wake up, I think you could be seeing post 7am wake ups very soon  ;)

Hi Leslie
It looks like your finally getting somewhere with M sleep  ;D  I'm not sure if you will get good long naps until she is on just 1 nap, but what she is doing seems to agree with her, good nights and later wake up.  So really just enjoy the fact that her routine, although not what you would really want, is working for her and ultimately thats what it all about, having a routine that works for your LO.

If the catnap starts to push bedtime too late, then you can cut it too 15mins, even 10mins before you have to drop it completely.  I think when you get to 7am+ wake ups you should find going onto just 1 nap works well.

Katt - can you send some of those canine cutting vibes Lilys way, she has been getting her bottom canines and bottom 2yr molars for 5-6m now.  I don't know what Lily thinks about it but I'm certainly fed up with waiting for the rotten things to pop through  :(

We are getting earlier wake ups here too, shes gone from 7.20-7.45 wakes ups to 6.45 - 7.00 wake ups, which of course is leading to OT naps this week  :(  Oh well we should have a slight reprieve when the clocks change  :-\

Hi Nicola, you have worried me now as that pesky tooth still hasn't broken the skin and her bottom two molars are also causing havoc but we can't see them  :P She is actually dribbling saliva out of her mouth and every now and then her cheek goes bright red and she screams a really piercing scream, I feel so bad for her, I hope it breaks through soon, the matching one is also coming to the surface  ::) Have Lily's been constantly hurting her or do you have on and off periods? I just want the teething over now, 8 to go and they are taking their time  >:(

Leslie, Leorah is spoken to in english by me and Martin but hears danish everywhere else. I wouldn't say she speaks english and danish because she can go for days without saying a comprehensible word which does worry me at times as she started speaking at 9 months. I did a count the other day and she has about 25 english words (though that includes uh ho, noo noo and Lala from Teletubbies  :-[) and has only 2 danish words apart from nej which is no and ja which is yes, she sometimes says no, no, no or if her nan or someone is here and she hears them she says nej, nej, nej while wagging her finger, we never do that so I don't know where she picked it up!! We are fighting the system at the mo' to get her a nursery place as they changed the rules and she went down the list, once she goes there we expect the danish to take off.

How have your naps gone today? I agree with Nic about cutting down the catnap, I would have done this myself but walking around in the cold dark winter meant it was better to go for the earlier bedtime. I am pleased to say that since we have completely blacked L's room she is sleeping until at least 7.30am again and we have let her sleep until 8am a few days as she is very tired at the mo'.
Katt

Strange nap- fell asleep at 11:50am, up crying at 12:20pm, clearly needing more sleep.  I laid her down and she fussed for a bit, but went B2S for about 10-15 mins.  This happened before, so I'll have to check my log.

I tried W2S again about 15 mins in, but since she woke at 30 mins I don't think it had any effect.  It never worked for her before, but I'm desperate so I keep trying  :P

Hey all,
Quick update from our camp - still no napping from Ol unless in the car and it's starting to take its toll on him now  :( More NW, finding it hard to get to sleep at night and waking around 6:15. Add to that that both of them have suddenly started with colds this wkend, which means Amy wants to feed in the night... Think you can see why I'm tired!
Sorry I haven't been inputting much lately Leslie, but am running low on insight at the mo!
Hope the rest of your day went well,
Laura x

Laura- silly question to ask why you're so knackered  ;)... of course you are, with 2 kids under 2!  Have you resorted to taking afternoon drives for Ollie to nap?  I'm sending you massive sleep vibes and get well vibes  :-*

We had a little 20 min catnap at 4:30pm, in bed at 6:45pm, and asleep at 7:15pm.  The bad news is that I've been in her room when she goes to sleep, otherwise she screams the house down.  Right now I'm thinking it's better she get to sleep, and I'll work on the AP later.  I just can't let the AP get worse.

If you're in her room but not holding / rocking her then she's still falling asleep on her own. Should be relatively easy to do GW from there so I wouldn't worry.

Am stuck between a rock and a hard place with Ollie's sleep cos if we're doing car naps for him then it deprives Amy of the opportunity for a decent pm nap as she usually only sleeps 30 min in the car. However I am starting to think it might be worth doing this every 3-4 days as I've not been successful getting Ollie to nap in his cot & he does need at least a couple of naps a week.

Glad to hear the catnap strategy is being successful  ;D

Laura- that IS rough.  Sounds reasonable to take a car ride every few days.  Have you gotten any advice from the support for dropping the last nap?

We had another good night (almost afraid to say it)... asleep at 7:15pm, up at 6:43am.  Almost exactly the same night as the previous one.

Hi ladies - I'm back.  I had my first weekend away from LC (actually my first time away longer than 4 hours), and went to the beach with my girlfriends.  It was a great break and I feel like a new person!

Leslie - It looks like things are moving along for you.  I really believe its all about just time and continuity and they do grow into the longer naps.  Her nights look great!

Laura - I bet you are tired!  I really don't know how you do it with 2!

Katt - I'm hoping that tooth comes through soon for L - it has to hurt.

Sleepwise, LC has started lengthening her nightime sleep and waking later (I gather that's pretty common from what you guys have said?) and is doing a 12 hour night again.  Suprisingly naps are also lengthening - she slept 2 hours 15 minutes for DH Fri, Sat, and Sun.  I hope she'll do the same for me today!  I'm hoping that this is a sign that she's settling into this routine now as its been almost a month since we switched to one nap.  Of course, I am sure some new teeth or something will be along to upset the plan shortly - as always is the way, right?

Here's where we are after our switch a month ago - does this look okay?  She seems to be doing really well with it.

7:30 wakeup & nurse
8:30 breakfast
10:00 usually have an activity in here
11:00 snack & nurse
12:00 Lunch
12:30 quiet time
1:00 asleep
3:00/3:15 wake
3:30 snack & nurse
6:00 dinner
7:00 bath, lotion, pjs, books & nurse
7:30 asleep

Mom to DD 2.22.2007 & DS 6.20.2009, born at home in the water!

Beth- nice to have you back!  I've never left M for more than 4 hours... and I'm jealous you were at the beach.  L's routine looks good- I hope some day we can get there.

M napped today for-  42 mins!  Don't know if it had anything to do with the car alarm going off outside her window for the first 10 mins of the nap, or if W2S worked today, but I'll take it.

I had to rock her again for her 20 min nap...

In crib at 6:45pm, asleep by 7:15pm.  I think tomorrow I'll put her in her crib at 6:55pm, and see if that stops the protesting.  Though to be honest, for all I know it's just mantra crying.

We had an earlier wake up today, 6:25am- I hope we're not going backwards.
