BW technique for tetthing nw?
« on: March 03, 2008, 09:12:45 am »
hi
just wondering what the BW thought is on night wakings that are teething related? last night my little one screamed for 40 mins and then settled as i gave him teething gel after 20 mins of screaming.  i wasnt sure tho to pick up and soothe? or pat him in his cot or WI/ WO?

i want to avoid any accidental parenting as he is a pretty good sleeper at night - EW sometimes  ::)

sorry could nt find this info anywhere else....

thanks

Hi there

How old is your LO?

I don't recall seeing any BW advice in the books - but Tracey always said not to try sleep training (ie PU/PD) when they are in pain. So I think you have to be softer when they are in pain - while trying to minimise the amount of AP as you say!

When Katie has NW related to teething, I give her pain meds and teething gel ASAP and then cuddle her for 15 min or so to give the pain meds chance to work, and by then she usually calms down so I put her back into the cot awake and she will generally get back to sleep herself. I have on the odd occasion BF or rocked her to sleep when she's been ill or in pain - I figure that an occasional use won't hurt...

my lo is 10 months old & only now getting teeth.  i agree with what u have said - just that sometimes because he is in pain me holding him doesnt do much! so i do a bit of pu, cuddle, shhhhh and then put down - walk out and then come back in a fewminutes....till the gel kicks in.

just he is now a good little sleeper at night and i really dont want to go back to feeds to soothe....

thanks for reply!
