Need help/support with giving up daytime pumping/BF'ing
« on: March 04, 2008, 02:09:46 am »
My LO is 10 mos and I have just gone back to work FT, (previously was working MWF).  Pumping has always been stressful for me-- I have a lot of time pressure at work-- but I stuck with it, especially because I always loved being able to nurse her on my days off.  I'd like to still nurse first thing in the am and at bedtime, and I've read that my body should be able to adjust to be able to still make milk at these times. (A friend, however, told me she found she still needed to pump once a day to keep her supply up).  Has anyone else out there has done this? Please let me know how it went for you.

Currently, her feedings are at 6:30a/10:30a/3p/6:30pm, and we do breakfast/lunch/dinner in between.  At my LO's age, I'm not sure whether to just go to offering her bottles at her daytime feeds or try doing a snack of solids and following up with a bottle- or maybe a sippy- of formula?

Any help/advice appreciated...

Jen

When weaning most people cut out one feed a week leaving the morning and night feeds the last. Cutting the feeds one at a time gives your body a chance to adjust it's milk levels. I know many mothers who only feed morning and night, or even just one feed a day for ages and have enough milk - I am one of them. Your body will normally make the amount you need at the time you need it. Any feeding you do is a gift to your LO and absolutely worth it.

I would offer milk first before solids up to a year, be it in bottles or from the breast.
