What is the difference between touchy and grumpy?
« on: March 04, 2008, 17:19:57 pm »
I wasn't sure which forum to post this in so I thought I'd start here.  I think DD is going to be a combo of spirited/touchy or spirited/grumpy.  But we can't figure out if she is touchy or grumpy.  What is the difference?  It seems they are similar with grumpy being more intense.

I came to this conclusion because it seems very hard to get her to smile.  She doesn't just give them up easily.  I have to really try to get her to smile.  She actually seems quite serious a lot of the time.  Always wanting to look around and check things out.  Sometimes I hold her up to my face to give her kisses and cuddles and she turns away so she can see what else is going on.  She also fusses quite a bit during the day.  When she is bored or wants to be held or wants a change.  And when she is tired, forget it - meltdown city!!  Plus, she seems to switch from happy to upset in a blink of an eye.

Any advice from those of you with similar LO's??  Thanks!

hi there,

There is a post detailing the different baby types in the Know Your Baby Quiz

Most of the time, you find that your baby has one main type, though there can certainly be a secondary type.

my ds was a grumpy baby, who was touchy in regards to sleeping.  so I had to make sure that I hit his window just right in order to get him to bed.  his crib couldn't be too stimulating and he really needed darkness & white noise in order to truly rest.

however, he always woke up roaring, even if he did have enough sleep - that was the grumpy part.
