bit late but just to say one thing that worked for us was lying together and listening to audio books, it was enough to recharge him for the afternoon/evening.

another thing I did is brought the main meal/tea forward to lunch time , that way if he was tired in the evening it felt less pressurised for him to eat a full meal.
