If I use dried chick peas, I rinse and soak for a bit. Then I boil them until soft. Takes long, make sure you keep an eye on the water level adding when necessary. When DS was young I cooked them and mashed them and spread them on toast, mix in rice or pasta with some olive oil or mixed with avocado. If you use the canned/tinned ones, which are a heck of a lot easier, try and get the no salt/low sodium ones and/or organic and you can do the same thing from the can, just warm them up a bit to make mashing easier. Now that DS is older we use them whole in salads, soups, stews, chilli's and mashed in our in our tuna salad.
