need help getting baby to take bottle....
« on: March 15, 2008, 18:13:19 pm »
Hi......my lo is 8mos and has absolutely refused a bottle since he was six weeks of age( I was told to wait that long). I am happy to be breastfeeding but am going to be returning to work in a couple of months and I need to get him on a bottle for day feeds of ebm. He has started on a sippy cup but dont know that he takes it seriously as a form of getting substinance...lol..he sips then plays etc. I would prefer to keep him to the sippy cup as I dont want to start the bottle this late in the game but if it will enhance and encourage his drinking I will do it. Anyone gone through this?? Help!

Most would probably recommend that you keep to the sippy cup...as you will want to start weaning OFF the bottle at around 10 months.  But if you really want to introduce the bottle then this is what worked for me:  allow him to latch onto boob for a feed and then you take him off the boob and give him the bottle to suck...then put him back on the boob.  You do this quite seamlessly (sneaky really) - so he hardly notices that there's been a switch.  Keep doing this so that he develops an association between breast feeding and bottle feeding.  What do you think?

How long do you leave him before making the switch?
