Nipple under the tongue
« on: March 21, 2008, 03:02:46 am »
Hi all

I have 3 week old twins (born 4 weeks early), and the smaller one is giving us problems (she's around 5lb now). She tends to get her tongue stuck on top of her mouth and it takes a lot of work (and luck) to manage to put the nipple over her tongue because almost very time she opens her mouth, the tongue is in the way. After a lot of dribbling, we usually get it right, and then she eats well, but it's frustrating for all of us.

Is it common? Will it get better as she gets older? Her brother has no problem whatsoever.

Hi there and welcome to the boards, I am not sure what is going on with the feeding, but do you have a hv who can look at her tongue and make sure she doesnt have mild tongue tie, its just the only thing that popped into my head. Otherwise, it could just be one of those things that your lo does, due to just being so tiny and having a teeny tiny mouth.  Congrats on the birth of your twins, what a double blessing  :-* :-* :-* :-*

Welcome to the BW Website.  Congrats on your double bundle of joy.

I agree with Emma, may be a mild case of tongue tie, or just a habit.  Check with your HV, but if your lo is feeding well I would not worry too much.
