Hi, I don't want to be here at all.  Not that you all aren't lovely...

530am wake I don't go in til 615 unless he cries.
12pm used to be his ultimate naptime... he in fact would ask to go to bed.  Usually slept til 2pm.  Now he sleeps 40-60m and wakes up hysterically crying, takes a long time to calm him.
730pm bed and he talks/sings for an hour or more

Help please.  I don't think he is ready to not have a nap, because he is more sensitive and cries easily when he is OT and that's what I've been seeing.  I've tried to put him to bed sooner at night, and it doesn't nothing.

TIA

Zoey--sorry he's still having troubles.  Did you try the bigger bed yet?

Bethany - No, maybe I should get the twin.  I want to, DH thinks I'm grasping at straws... he says the toddler bed is fine (though I know he is getting too tall for it).  We took him to the store this weekend, he thought that was better than any park or zoo around ;)  Of course he wanted a bunk bed, where the bottom folded up during the day like a couch/futon... "Mumma, couch beb?" he says looking at me totally confused.  "Yes, at night it goes flat like a bed." I say but I too am confused.  "Ok, mine?"  :P  The red dye - was making him hyper... I see a difference now that he isn't having pink milk - but I'm afraid I wrecked things by not knowing I was giving him baby crack before bedtime :(

Stacy - You are always there for me when Owen isn't sleeping and I love you for that. :)  What you type makes perfect sense, and I will definitely try this tomorrow.  Often I can't see the forest through the trees!  Thank you :-*

I'll let you guys know how we are doing.  Thank you, Thank you!  :-*

I like Stacy's plan--it's cheap.  ;)

If you think it's the bed, you could point out to DH that he'll have to have a twin bed eventually, so you'll have to spend the money at some point anyhow.  :)

How is it going everyone?

Nello has always been an average to slightly below average total hour requirement sleeper.  I said way back when that I know naps will be officially finished when his overall sleep total is only 11 hours.  Well, we are getting closer. 2 months ago he was at 12 hours total, now we are at 11 and 1/2 hours total. I go with the flow each day.  It is summer here, so sometimes bedtime is delayed so I let him nap as long as he likes the next day as his night time was shorter.  I am still not sure what he is better with, longer nights no nap or some nap and shorter night.  It almost feels it is the same really, just different times of the day that have mini melt downs. Hmmmmmm. What totals are your LO's at? BTW, he will be 3 in October.

Aisling...
we are at about 11.5hrs aswell....

so right now routine is mostly: but it varies by 30minutes or so
wake 7
nap 1-2----so I limit to 1hr total---even 20minutes extra can take a whole 1hr off the night
bed for 7:30/7:45 (he asks for it)---and hes hopefully asleep about 8:30

I don't like long naps---usually he'll fall asleep close to normal time but be up super early---and thenI'm in to that short night and longer nap cycle again...

Hi everyone! Hope you guys are doing good and big hugs to all the LOs too.

We are between 11-12 total here most days with the occasional 12.5 or less than 11 (super ugh). DD does best with about 11 at night and one during day but that rarely happens.

Yesterday I woke DD at 7:20 for her first day camp (two mornings a week from 8:15-11:30) after she fell asleep a little after 8 that night. She had a great time at camp but was SO tired when I picked  her up (they have a pool and all). She wanted to go right into her crib at 12 but didn't fall asleep until 1. I let her sleep until almost 2:30 (big mistake) and then she didn't fall asleep until well after 9 and was up a little before 7 this morning and is super cranky today!

I should do like you Stacy and cut her to 45 minutes, one hour tops on camp days. Like Kaleb, Marisa can only handle a couple days of no nap before it's meltdown overtired city.

We're in a good pattern here (for now):

7:30 wake him up
1:15 nap time (generally takes a bit for him to fall asleep, he sleeps 1.5-2 hours; I wake him at 2 hours if needed)
9:00 bed time

So I guess that makes us at 12-12.5 hours of sleep.

Once in a while he won't nap, but we stick with the same bed time and then he usually does nap the following day.  Also, we've been going for walks in the afternoon/evening and if he didn't nap he sometimes naps in the stroller.  Interestingly, no matter how late he naps, he generally has no trouble falling asleep at night (sometimes goofs around a bit, but never fights it) and doesn't wake up early.   Same if I oops and he naps past 2 hours.  If he naps more than 2 hours though, he won't nap the following day.

Just to let you all know, since we dropped to one nap, our total sleep time has actually increased. Can generally bank on at least a solid 12 hours, sometimes up to 14 hours. When we were faffing about with one nap, he just wasn't tired enough for either nap or bed, it seemed.

There is hope!

I cannot wait until Kate is done napping, or at least down to one nap. Loooong way to go, she's just 6 months lol.

Michelle, did that just kick in our did it take some time to adjust?  How early do you put him to bed?

Bethany, do you put him in bed at 9pm or he is asleep at 9pm?

Thx.

A x

Bed at 9 pm, most days he falls asleep (or at least gets totally quiet) immediately.  We were waking him at 7:45 am and naps were hit and miss; when we started waking him always at 7:30, naps became much more regular.  Amazing what a difference 15 minutes makes.

we were going great had pretty much dropped the nap around here & then one thing & another (too many busy days, step-d being a pain etc) & we went through 4 days with naps & now URGGH 5.30am wake ups are the norm... that will hopefully revert back to no naps in the next 2 weeks when we are away with Sis & her 2 & then another trip to visit my parents... then ds1 goes to preschool 3/week so he will need earlier bed too  SO hoping dh will not let things get lapsed again - always gets messed up if I go out for the night... he doesn't understand 30mins late for bed can ruin my week. LOL

I am not sure if i should be joining this group yet!  I am finding it hard to know what to do with ds.  how do i know when to start shortening his nap? This is where we are right now:

awake b/w6-6:30am
nap 12:30-2:30 average sometimes a bit shorter or longer.  Some days I was letting him go 2.5 hrs before I woke him.  I recently shortened it to 2.25 hrs
bedtime 7:30 (asleep bw 7:50-8pm)

I would love to have a later w/u but not sure if I'll ever get it?

what do you think?
