A little cows milk in porridge?
« on: April 16, 2008, 16:11:03 pm »
My DD is 8&1/2 months old. She is still on 4 formula bottles a day. I know Cows milk is not reccommended until after they turn 1 but I am just wondering is a little cows milk in her porridge (she only has it every few days ) OK or should I always use her formula?
Thanks.

I was wondering the same thing, only cow's milk with cheerios.  Anyway, I think that depending where you are the recommendation can range from 9 mos-12 mos to intro cow's milk.  Could you just add bm or formula?  Someone told me that you can add cow's milk if you cook it first since they can have food that are cooked wiht cow's milk.

My HV says that with breakfast and in cooking is OK, small amounts. I also make quinoa pudding with whole milk. Lucie has cow's milk with muesli and porridge, she has no problems. Always try and wait and see. Make sure they are having theiw BF or bottles as priority for the first 12 months anyway.

Thank you both for your replies, so far I have been using formula but sometimes forget to make up extra when I am making the bottles so would be good if I could use cows milk.
I will keep formula as the priority until after she is one abut just would like to use cows milk every few days in her porridge.

Cow's milk is fine for use in food preparation, not just cooking, but also with cereals, you just can't use it as their main food source/drink/bottles until 12 months - most countries seem happy with it being introduced in this way from 6 months, some from 9 months!

Have used it on cereal for both dd and ds since 6 months old so weetabix and ready brek, would also add into lunch if needed it to be more liquidy. Ireland recommends using it in food and sauces from 6 months on. Did try a few days with just a taste first to make sure of no reaction
