Hi there Melissa,
I gave him some baby paracetamol the 2 nights he was up and it seemed to work ok...I guess thats the same as your tylanol.
He slept really well again last night he woke at about 2am and had a feed then slept til 7am this morning, so I really felt alot better this morning. But he hasnt been fussed on his bottle today, he drinks 30ml and and pushes it out his mouth crying! So i'm thinking maybe he's teething but I cant remember my other 2 LO's being like this teething, they just seemed to wake up with teeth, I guess they are all different.

When he woke at night they were full feeds, he's finally drinking 150ml...yah

Tonight I tried a shorter last A time, he woke at 4.15pm this arvo, so he had a play, feed, then I bathed him and topped his bottle up and i put him back in the cot at 6pm he woke at about 6.50pm, so i thought I'd get him up for a play with his daddy, he played ok for about 30 mins so I thought I'd do the whole get ready for bed thing but he took awhile to actually settle,  I tried about 7.30 to put him to bed but he didnt actually settle until 8.45pm... So i'm unsure why he has such an unsettled time from his last nap time until he actually crashes out for the night... any suggestions

bek ;)

My lo, when teething, would not eat...her food intake went down by about 50%
You can try putting something on his gums or give him so medicine 30 min. before a feed to see if that might help...while the teething is really bad.

For bed, when he was trying to settle for that hour, what was he doing?
did he have another feed then?

With that 6pm nap, how many naps does that make in a day?

Hi Melissa,

When we were trying to settle for the hour he was playing in the cot for about 15-20 minutes, then starting whinging a little until it turned into a grumpy cry which I got him out and patted him for about 5 minutes until he was asleep. He didnt have another feed then as he had one before I tried to settle him the hour before!! Should he have another feed???

the 6pm nap would probably be his 4th sleep for the day.
He usually sleeps from 9am til 10-10.30am
then he'll go down again about 12.30/1.30 and sleep for an hour and a half
then he'll usually be ready for another sleep about 3.30-4pm when the kids are home from school but this is usually only 30-45 minutes, so thats when i start his bedtime wind down time, when he was younger he would stay in bed the whole night from 6-6.30pm but thats all changed probably the last month!!!

Can you see anything that we could try and change in that to make the night time settle abit easier??? As at the moment it seems to be taking awhile to settle him at night and my nights are getting longer as I try and finish all my jobs after he finally settles....

Thanks Melissa...

Bek :)

Well the first part of the day looks like a true 4 hour EASY (nap wise...2 long naps, 1 cat nap), it's that last nap/bedtime that's kind of crazy

If he's getting up at around 6am, 6/6:30 should really be the bed time. You want to stick to about a 12 hour day and 12 hour night.
I honestly wouldn't get him back up after waking...if he wakes after you put him down the first time for bed.  That will only confuse him and will end up starting a habit...3 days to start a habit.

Maybe try checking on the NWing boards about that strange wake up. ???
I did see on the sleep board that waking up 45 min. -1 hour in to night time sleep usually means overtired.

You may want to check over there.

Thanks Melissa, I'll check out the sleep boards and NWaking boards to see if there's an answer to that strange question...

He does wake to start the day between 6-6.30 am so I was aiming for the 6-6.30pm bedtime... It just kind of went hay wire there and i have no idea how???

Anyway i'll keep you posted on our progress!
Thanks once again for all your help. I would be so lost without this website, it's been my saviour at times..

You are very welcome. :)

I really hope you are able to get the night waking problem solved.
Mommy and Daddy need their Y time  ;) and sleep too.

Please let me know what they think over on the sleep boards.

Hi Melissa,

A quick question??? Not sure if i've asked this before!

If he wakes before his time during his day time sleeps should i try and get him back to sleep or get him up and lesson the next A time and start all over again..

This morning we woke about an hour into his nap and was totally wet through all his clothes and bedding, he was still really tired and his eyes were almost shut but i just couldnt let him go the rest of the sleep all wet, as it's quite cold here now... Plus it wouldnt have been nice sleeping all wet..

Once i changed him all over he was not TIRED anymore.... then he decided it was poop time!!!

So going back to sleep just was out of the question then??? :-\

Pee and Poop happen. :P :P :P :P
We've had soooo many naps ruined due to a poop.
As frustrating as it is, you just kind of go with the flow and adjust the rest of the day and just pray it doesn't happen tomorrow  ;) ;)

If your lo wakes up earlier than normal, unless he's crying, I'd leave him in there to see if he'll go back on his own plus it's good for them to learn how to entertain themselves after waking.
We've done that just about from day one and my dd will lay in bed for about 30 minutes after her nap and in the moring just waits until we come and get her.  it's nice, especially since my dd is an early riser.
-If he starts to cry then go in and try to put him back to sleep.

30 min. naps usually = OT and that makes it hard for them to actually go back to sleep but it's worth a shot.
45 min. naps usually = UT...in need of more A time...so they most likely can't be put back to sleep as they've had enough sleep due to the previous amount of A time they've had; aren't tired anymore

You are correct...if they have a short nap, lessen the next A time some to help compensate.
