too much nap for a 7 mth?
« on: April 24, 2008, 02:17:38 am »
hello mummies  :)

i have an enquiry here n hoping some mummies can share their experiences/ advices.
My ds is going to be 7 mth next wk n she just started solids, however, i find that she is actually sleeping alot even before i intro solids, compared to many other babies.
On average, she has two long naps (2hr-3hr) and a shorter one of about 1 hr in the evening (5/6pm - 7pm). i let her take the evening nap bec her bedtime is aound 9pm at night, coz daddy works late, so she stays up later to " bond" with daddy  ;). if i let her have an earlier bedtime, then daddy wont be able to play with her at all in a working day.

1)Is 5-7hrs of daytime naps too much?
2)sometimes, she can nap for 3 hrs, past her feedtime too, should i always wake her up when it is time for her feed?

though she sleeps alot in the day, she can still sleep thru at night, usually from 9.30pm to about 7 am, though sometimes she wakes up around 5.30am, but just gotta give her a dummy n she is usually back to dreamland.

I appreciate any advice! thanks once again.

Hmmm, I'll be interested to see what others say.

Ideally, you would be looking for your DD to have a 12 hour day and a 12 hour night.  This allows them to have a good nights sleep which is really important developmentally.  Also, it allows for feeds to be appropriately spaced and sufficient during the day.

From your post it looks like some of her night sleep is happening in the day time, although over all she is having 'enough' or 'average' sleep.

So ... basically I don't know!! Not much help there! Personally, I would be inclined to bring bedtime forward and do less day naps ... particularly as that is the direction she will go in naturally as she gets older.  I would be concerned that as she begins to drop her naps and her need for day sleep decreases, she may not easily bring bedtime forward to compensate.  But, if it ain't broke for you and all that!!

Watching this space!
