Not Eating - Teething
« on: May 07, 2008, 06:29:46 am »
I'm sorry if this is not the correct place to post this.
My 4 month old boy has, we think, started teething. Syptoms include excessive dribbling, chewing on hand and fingers, increased fussiness and a poor appetite. Oh yes and seems to be waking out of hunger around 0400 - 0500, when usually he will sleep through to around 0700.
He has really gone off his food. He usually feeds as follows:
0700            7-8 oz
1100            7-8 oz
1400 - 1530  7-8 oz
1830            7-8 oz
2200            6-8 oz

He has over thee last two weeks being more and more fussy at feed time. At first I thought that he was just able to go longer between feeds and has stopped crying for his food. But recently he just puts up such a fight. It some times takes ages to feed him if he does feed. Recently his feeding is more like:
0430           3-5 oz
0700           7 oz but takes 1 hour to eat it
1100           4 oz
wont eat before
1530           7-8oz
1830           7-8oz
Is it normal for teething babies to do this?
He wont take to any teething dummies, any suggestions there?
Got to go. thanks

Try some teething gel before his bottle to see if that will help.

Hi - I remember when ds was about 3.5/4 months I had awful problems with him eating - I think its quite common as they become more aware of their surrondings they becomw fussier at feeding.  The only was I could get him to feed was in a darkened  room.  Also have you thought about changing teat size?
