Help! What to do for knot in breast?
« on: May 12, 2008, 17:56:38 pm »
Somebody please remind me...  What do you do for massive knots in your breast?  I woke up with a pretty big one yesterday morning.  Tender, too.  I've tried nursing, pumping, massage, & heat.  Am I forgetting something?  TIA.

I think you're doing the right thing - how about getting in the bath and pumping.

You might also want to check to see if there is any sort of block or "bleb" on the nipple.  I sometimes get a blocked duct in the same spot because there is one little section of my nipple (sorry, tmi!) where a little white spot develops where the milk is stuck.  It's not really a bleb - just a white dot where the skin has grown over.  i apply moist heat (fill up a clean diaper with hot water for the best hot compress that stays warm for a while!) and then pick at it until it's clear.  then I nurse.  Sometimes it takes several rounds of this "treatment", but I haven't developed mastitis yet from that spot.

HTH!
