Sleeping in an unfamiliar place
« on: May 15, 2008, 17:06:06 pm »
Hi there - I have a random question.

My LO is going to be baptized in 3 weeks. We will be spending the entire day away from home. I am not sure how to get her to nap at my inlaws! I went away with my DD about a month ago, and had to cut my trip short because after 3 days of no sleep (me or her) I could not take it anymore!
So, other than driving her around in the car for each nap (which I will do if I have to) any ideas on napping in new places?

we always take something familiar with his smell on it with us. its easier now he understands more but he still has to have his bear with him. when he was younger we would take his blankets etc and tried to make it as normal as possible. my inlaws had night lights etc, but bradley always went to sleep in the dark with the door shut, so we kept his routine the same as we could manage...good luck!

What is she sleeping in now?  For our little one we put up a travel cot in her room where she usually sleeps and had her take a few naps in that for a couple of days so she could get used to it.  We also took the same sheets she was sleeping on away with us so they would feel/smell the same and the same white noise recording...just tried to make the "change" as minimal as possible.

I had brought with me her blankie, her swaddle, the same white noise and her music box and she still would not sleep!
Where did you get your travel cot? What brand is it? Maybe I should look into that.

I am in New Zealand so I am not sure if I can help with Travel Cot suppliers!  We use the Childcare Galaxy travel cot from the Baby Factory.  It is quite heavy to take away though. See http://kiddliwinks.com.au/~kiddliwi/cgi-bin/cart.cgi/077200-002.html

Another option we have used is a travel cot that folds up a bit like a tent and only weighs a couple of kilos and is compact.  It is the Phil and Teds T2 cot.  http://www.philandteds.com/nz/t2_07_1.htm

Good luck
