Going on Holiday... help please
« on: May 18, 2008, 21:12:04 pm »
hello everyone, hope that you all have had a lovely weekend ...

I was wondering if anyone has every been on holiday with there little one while following a routine and if so how did it go and did you manage to some what stick to the routine...

Any advice would be really appreciated, basically we are going abroad to a friends wedding for 14 days and staying in a hotel for the whole duration, so it is going to be very inconvienent but i am sure we will manage someone. My biggest worry is when we go out for dinners in the evening and the big question is will she sleep in the buggy? We can not stay in the hotel room the whole evening from bed time 7pm till the next morning.. this is impossible we are not in a friends house so we have to go out for dinner every single night..

Please some advice or stories of holidays will be of great help and hopefully some motivation.. I am going to try not to stress at all when away but some hints and tips would be appreicated

thank you very much

xxx Jen

We haven't gone anywhere besides my parents for that duration of time so I don't know first-hand. I think it's great that you're going with your LO and even though it may be a little rough here and there I bet it will be a very memorable time!

My LO won't sleep in his stroller anymore but if your LO sleeps in her buggy sometimes now then maybe she'll be able to do it when you're out. Maybe you could plan some nights to bring dinner to the hotel so she can get to bed at her normal time? But I also suppose it will be a little difficult if you're in a one room hotel room as you wouldn't be able to do much in there if she's sleeping. If her night sleep does get cut short I would try to let her catch up a bit during naps if she can.

Also be sure to bring any comfort items for her. Whenever we travel I also bring a dark green sheet to hang up in the windows as my LO needs it pretty dark to sleep.

Probably not much you didn't know already! I'm sure it will be a great time!

I've just come back from my trip to visit family in UK with my 14 week son and a 7 hour time difference.  I was worried about it but i was only going to be here for 2 weeks and i wanted to make the most of it!  I made sure I stuck to a routine as best I could but didn't worry to much if it wasn't exact.  What was important to me was that he didnt' get into any bad habits etc and stuck to his eating times.  I will get him back into a routine quick enough when i get home and if its hard to do which i'm sure it wont' then it will still have been worth it!!  its only 3 days to get them into a routine really and i really think that babies are adaptable as we make them?
dont let routine ruin your yearly vacation just stick with it best you can and if you can't then dont panic - if he sleeps in his stroller then great but if not then just put him to bed when you get home!
