Trouble with long evening nap
« on: May 19, 2008, 04:05:36 am »
Hello,

Newbie here with a question about long evening naps.  My LO is 11 weeks old, we are on a loose 3-4 hour EASY routine.  I'm EBF, our day kinda goes like this:

Wake around 9am
E
A
S - approx 1 hr nap at 10:30am

Wake around 11:30am
E
A
S - has a longer afternoon nap around 1pm.  This nap can range from 1 to 3 hours

Wakes between 3:00pm
E
A
S - approx 1 hr nap at 5:00pm

Wakes around 6:00pm
E
A
S - falls asleep around 7:00pm.  Generally after 2 hours I wake my LO up because I'm afraid she wont sleep at night.  I'll wake her around 9:00pm, feed and play with her until 11:00pm when I feed her one more time before putting her down for the night.

Generally she'll sleep until 3:00am.  I'll reswaddle and paci her and she'll fall back asleep until 4:30am when I feed her.  She'll go back to sleep and wake around 8am and we start all over again.

***Question, should I be waking her from her evening nap?  Should I just let her sleep?  I'm concerned if she sleeps too long, she won't sleep at night!!!

Any suggestions???

Thanks

Hi there!  I'd let her sleep, if she were mine.  You could probably expect an earlier wake time than 9 am, but most babies end up with a 12 hour day/night (like 7 to 7 or 8 to 8).  At her age, on a 3 hour EASY she would have 3 longer naps and a cat nap, and her A time would be about 80-90 minutes.

I think she might have better nights as opposed to worse if her night sleep was uninterrupted.  If the NW at 3 is not hunger related, then that may disappear once you let her be at night.

HTH!
