Has anyone's doctor had them follow an elimination diet and then conduct a food challenge to determine whether your DC is allergic to a particular food? I'm reading up on the association between CMA (cow's milk allergy) and GERD and finding that the only way to truly know whether your child has primary (immature system) or secondary (caused by CMA) GERD is through this test.

Have you seen an allergist to get tested?  Oh never mind just saw he was only 2 months old.  Our allergist do see babies that young, but they normally like to wait until older for more accurate results.

YES, I would say your doctor is correct.  With my DS1, we did several milk challenges.  Once at 6months (failed), again at 9 mos (failed) and at 12 months (soon failed).  He could not handle milk until 18 mos.  He was never allergic, but had a very bad intolerance.

DS2 that is almost 9  months old.  We have never really trailed milk with him.  He was on an Amino acid formula and then Alimentum.   We are just now at almsot 9 months trying a regular milk based formula.  The only reason why is because we saw the allergist yesterday and confirmed no actual allergy.

He may still have an intolerance, like DS1, but we shall see.

BTW, Are you referring to you son or daughter?

Are you nursing or Formula feeding?

Also, out Allergist told me yesterday that normally when a lo cannot handle milk in a mother's diet or milk formula, if it is not an actual allergy, then most can handle it just fine once their digestive tract matures at about 8/9 mos old.  (Not all, but most).

Hope this helps some, Wendy

we are in the process of doing this now.  our specialist asked us to also get blood work done as well.  but that only tells a few allergies at this age.

We just did this with our Thomas 2 years old.  He has been on the elimination diet since last July for both milk and soy.  We reinstated them this spring and he did not do well.  We are now trying to recover from that trial.  He is now terribly constipated like he was when he was a newborn and on milk-based formula.  It almost seems it is worse now.  When we initially began the elimination diet at 14 months, he did great right away.  Who knows.  I just know that I am not anxious to try again soon.  He is also negative for all blood and allergy tests, but I know what I see and live.
