Can anyone recommend a good BPA free bottle? Right now I use AVENT, and they contain BPA  :(

Thanks!

I was just at walmart, and there parents choice bottles are BPA free, I was shocked, and they are nice and cheap; although they are the "regular bottles" not bags or anything.  I haven't tried them, but my sister-in-law has them b/c all the others are SO expensive and she says that they work well for her.

Thank you! I'll go check them out. Good that they are cheap because I already spent alot on a library of AVENT bottles.

I like your name  ;D and my little one has the same cute little striped monkey outfit your lo is wearing  :)

He has already grown out of it :(  He only wore it twice, they just grow so fast.

Bottles:  I really tried with the platex bottles for my LO but it was the wrong kind of nipple.  He did not take well to the fat nipples, he sucked in alot of air.  We are using the dr.brown bottles right now, but it is looking like those nipples may fit on the walmart bottles, I need to check that out.  My 10 week old is only taking like 2.5-3 ounces at a time right now, and I am getting VERY frustrated, but those bottles are the taller bottles  ?10 ounces or so; I don't need ones that big just yet.

Let me know how you make out, I am curious to know.   :D

Hi! I was just on the Wal-Mart site checking out all the suggestion...playtex, Born Free and Parent's Choice. I came across MAM which is BPA free and AVENT nipples will work with them :). So I think I am going to try those. They are $12 for 3; I'll make a posting once I give them a try!

Also on Wal-Mart's site, they have the smaller (4 or 5 oz) Dr. Brown bottles with the colic system, but if you get the 8 or 10 oz, you can still only put 2-3 oz in them. You won't have to buy more once he needs the bigger ones!!  Dr B is not BPA free, only the "inerds" are (the straw system). Otherwise I would switch to those because my twins have gas issues and Levi spits up quite a bit.

Levi only wore the monkey outfit twice, too! They DO grow so fast, but Old Navy also sizes small.

Thank you again!

Dr. Browns have come out with glass bottles.  They do not hold as much though.  I think the small ones are only 3.5 oz. and the larger ones are 7 oz.  They are the ones we are using because before they pulled bpa bottles off the shelves that is what we were using with my ds and so we just switched to the glass bottles.

I knew they took AVENT bottles back in Canada, but they doing it in the US yet? You mentioned returning them Toys R Us? We have one here...if they are taking them back, then I am on my way!!! Thanks for the Dr B info...do they also have the special colic system? I don't know if I could do glass; I'm SO clumsy!  ::)

A co-worker of mine brought me an article on BPA, and they said the most affected are fetuses, newborns and infants  (all young children). It's rally scary what the article talked about. Not enough research to support either argument, but i don't want to find out!

I hate to say it, but we do a lot of things that doesn't make sense  ???  I can always sell them on ebay, but I would feel guilty selling something to someone else I won't use because it could be harmful...hmmmm. Guess I just decided i won't be doing that. How about I ship them to you, and split the credit with you???   ;D  I'll sit back and see if our wits come to "US", punn intended.  ;D

Toys'R'Us are not taking the avent bottles back now unless you have a receipt, I went today., for a month they had it where you didn't need proof of purchase until 2 weeks ago. SUCKS!! who keeps a receipt for 2 years?

My search continues, but I thought I'd update you on the ones I've tried:  The MAM bottles from Sassy did NOT work for me! First of all TOO many parts!!! Six total I think?!  :o And trying to get the thing together right was next to impossible. The top and bottom screwed off and it leaked terribly. I returned them the very next day.

I also tried Nuby. The nipples are a little weird, and my lo's had a hard time figuring them ot. Actually, they didn't figure it out and got VERY mad at me!  :-\

I found Gerber Gentle Flow bottles which are almost identical to AVENT bottles. Same size, shape and nipples, but BPA free. I'm trying them tonight.

I have also ordered Dr. Brown's polypropelene bottles (aka BPA free), they are designed the same as the original. We'll see if they take to the standard nipple size because they are used to wide neck bottles. So I'll keep you posted on those as well!

Simply put: Bad Plastic Anomalies ;D  Actually, bisphenol A: a hard plastic that is used to manufacture MANY of the popular bottles out there...AVENT, Dr. Brown, etc.  It could leach into the milk your feeding your baby and have side effects. Canada has banned it's use for any baby feeding products and some Canadian retailers offered refunds (as store credits) to those that brought in AVENT bottles.
In a nutshell:
BPA, a synthetic sex hormone that mimics estrogen, is used to make hard polycarbonate plastic. Ninety-five percent of all baby bottles on the market are made with bisphenol A. The results of the U.S. study show that, when new bottles are heated, those manufactured by Avent, Evenflo, Dr. Brown’s and Disney/First Years leached between 4.7 – 8.3 parts per billion of bisphenol A. Recent research on animals shows that bisphenol A can be harmful by disrupting development at doses below these levels.

but these are a couple of links that are very informative  :)

http://www.chej.org/BPA_Website.htm
http://www.factsonplastic.com/?gclid=CN2T_rTq5ZMCFQuwGgodpgTuVg

It is also found lining soda cans, other canned food items, etc.

So how do you tell if a bottle has it? The bottle is clear, hard plastic and it is sometimes marked with the number 7 in a triangle. These are not safe to heat or put in the dishwasher (due to leaching). Leaching is even possible by putting the bottle in a bowl of hot water to warm it. This is what we have been doing, but we are switching tonight to the Gerber bottles since they are so close to the AVENT ones.

Don't mean to scare you; I included the links to help educate you so you can form your own opinion about it. The US hasn't banned it yet. [color]
