what is the "routine" after 8/9 months??
« on: May 22, 2008, 20:43:51 pm »
Hello everyone.  My name is Freya Dunbar and I am a mother to an almost 9 month old.  My question/comment is this.  I have been doing the EASY routine since Ayla (my daughter) was about 2 months old.  Now I am somewhat struggling with trying to find a new routine that involves food.  Our days usually go like this:

7:00 wake up, 4-6 oz bottle
7:15-8:00 play
8:00 breakfast 4-5tbsp cereal, 1-3tbsp fruit
8:20-8:45 play
8:45-9:00 wind down for nap
9:00-11:00 nap (she's not necessarily asleep for that long but she's happy to play in her crib after her nap.)
11:00-12:00 play
12:00 lunch - 1 4.5oz jar veg or veg meat combo, about 1/2 4 oz jar fruit, sometimes watered down juice
12:20-12:45 play
12:45-1:00 wind down for nap
1:00-3:00 nap (same as above for naps, happy to play in crib)
3:00 6oz bottle
3:15-6:00 play, which may include walking if I'm ambitious enough!!  LOL!  Sometimes there is a catnap between 5 and 6.
6:00 supper - 2tbsp cereal, approx 1 jar veg, and fruit if still hungry
6:15-7:00 bath and play
7:00 4-6oz bottle, bed

So I think we have it pretty good.  I'm still following the EASY and it's working, I'm just concerned about bottle versus food, how much and how long between??  First thing in the morning and before bed she seems to cram in a whole bunch of food.  She is happy and thriving regardless!!
There doesn't seem to be a routine to follow after 6 months!!  And I really appreciated the routine because as a first time mom I had no clue what I was doing!!  Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Am I right in reading that she only has 3 bottles a day?  And then the 3 meals and no snacks?

Normally the 4th bottle isn't dropped until later like 11-12 months, but if she is striving, then that is what matters.  I would actually have her supper a bit earlier like 5:00, but once again, if she is striving and doing OK, then you're probably fine.

When my LO was that age, she still had a bottle at about 11:30ish in addition to what you have listed.  You may need to incorporate a mid-morning snack at some point if she can't make it through her morning nap without waking from hunger, but otherwise, although it seems on the light side, if she's hpapy, that is all that matters.

HI,

My LO is 8.5 months and we have dropped to 3 bottles a day recently as he wasn't interested in full bottles at the 11am and 3pm feeds. This is what our routine looks like at the moment. Keep in mind that my DS can only handle 2.5-3hrs of A time and not that much in the morning.

6:45 wakes up
7am bottle 6-8oz
8am solids breakfast
9am naps for 1.5hrs max
10:30am wakes up
11:30am bottle 6oz
12:30 lunch solids
1/1:30 naps for 1-1.5hrs
2:30 wakes up
3:30 snack
5pm will sometimes take a 30 min catnap
5:30 dinner solids
6:30pm bath etc
7pm bottle 6-8 oz and then bed

Hope that is of some use to you.

Ruth
