3 month old barely nursing today.....strike?
« on: May 27, 2008, 03:53:15 am »
Help!  I overreact to things, I'll start there.  And I need to vent, because I 'm worried  :-[

My dd barely nursed today.  She took a good feed this morning at 6....barely snacked at 9, good feed at 1, another good feed at 5:30 and snacked before bed at 8.  What's going on?  And if I tried to nurse her in between (which I tried every time she woke up, per EASY and any time she fussed, too) she's scream and arch away.  Her naps were all over the place, too.

Some ideas and things I've ruled out:

1.  I haven't eaten anything new or unusual.
2.  We've had some hectic times w/ a fire evacuation and lots of commotion, though not really directly affecting us.
3.  She takes two bottles a day at daycare, though she's not been there since last Thursday.
4.  Maybe she just finished a growth spurt?
5.  When do we go to four hour EASY?
6.  I've been wearing her a couple times a day
7.  I've stripped us both down, too.  Didn't work.
8.  She has a bad diaper rash which could be yeast.  I'm treating it w/ nystatin cream just in case.
9.  She takes a pacifier.

I have to work tomorrow and until June 6th, when school is out (only nine days) and I'm worried about supply and her day at daycare and if she's just getting too used to bottles.  But then why strike today, three days since her last bottle?

Sorry for the ramble, I just needed to write it down to get it all out.  I'd best go pump now.  Thanks in advance.

Shannon, I may be completely wrong in this advice so bear that in mind :P

My advice would be to wait it out (within reason).  If she's like it again tomorrow, pump when she would normally feed to ensure your supply isn't affected (I read that it takes 48 hours to "reprogramme".  Chances are it's just a phase and she'll be right back on track in a few days.  You know the score - as long as there's wet nappies, she's content and is gaining weight, you should try not to worry.

Hugs honey - I remember tons of this with Sophie and it's no fun!

Take care and try not to worry too much :-*

Thanks, Jo.  :-* She ate well at 2 and 6 so maybe we're on the mend.  Sophie did this often?
