Needs some ideas for breakfast & lunch for my 2 year old
« on: May 28, 2008, 01:08:43 am »
Hello,
I read through the "what did your toddler eat today" forum and would like some more suggestions. I'm running out of healthy ideas for snacks/breakfast/lunch. For breakfast I currently give her eggs & toast (some days she likes eggs, others not), slow-cooking oatmeal, usually always some fruit, or a cereal like cherrios or Kashi. Lunch is leftovers from dinner, peanut butter & jelly, she likes tuna, mac-n-cheese (I don't love giving her this), some type of soup. Snacks are fruit, cheese, yogurt, or whatever else I can find. She is getting bored a lot with this. Any other suggestions? Thanks!! I guess what I'm looking for is some things you feed your kids each day that I haven't thought of!

pankakes, sometimes I put bannanas or pureed carrots or zucchini, waffles, grilled cheese, you could add veggies to mac and cheese, I add broccoli, home made muffins.

Maren loves avocado, grilled cheese sandwiches (real cheese on multigrain bread), organic mac and cheese (I throw in frozen mixed veggies), cottage cheese (with or without fresh fruit mixed in), whole grain crackers...
I just found these cereal bars made by Heinz that have no fructose and are made with whole grains in the toddler food section of Superstore, she gobbled them up.  Bagels with cream cheese are a favorite here too.

Waffles are a favorite here too. You can put pretty much any topping on them. We buy a multi/whole grain brand and they have calcium, protein, and fiber in them. Ella loves smoothies, I usually make them with fruit (fresh or frozen), carnation instant breakfast, yogurt, and milk. We make mini pizzas on whole wheat pitas for lunch sometimes. I top them with veggies too. Sandwiches made with roasted deli meat are a hit. Ella loves to spread fat free miracle whip on them. Quesedillas are something we don't make often, but are a hit when we have them. You can add pretty much everything in them. Hamburgers and turkey burgers are options too. That's all I can think of now. Hope it helps!

Leorah loves french toast for breakfast (bread dipped in egg and fried in a little olive oil), sometimes I drizzle on a little honey or add mashed banana or marmite. She also has natural yoghurt mixed with pureed fruit and a cereal like bran flakes (she discovered this in my bowl!), toasted sandwiches with beans and cheese, fruit to dip in natural yoghurt with a little honey, smoothies and a new favourite is boiled eggs with toasted soldiers to dip in  :)
