Ready for 3 to 4 hr EASY?
« on: May 28, 2008, 18:32:06 pm »
Just wanted a little advice on whether or not my LO is ready to start moving to a 4hr routine.  He will be 4months next week, but was 5 weeks premature.  That's the part that makes me hesitant.  We have been doing a 3 hr EASY for a while.   His naps have become 45min ones due to AP through use of a pacifier.  I got rid of it for about 4 wks now.  It seems that now he can't make the transition to the next sleep cycle for the naps.  I've been working hard this past 4 wks using PU/PD and pat shh to extend the naps: observing everything from what activity he is doing before, his sleepy queues, but still no luck with extending the naps.  I think it is probably due to the weekends.  Dad is home and seems like both my LO and I ready for a break.  Dad is not as strict or good about the PU/PD as I am.

Anyway,  I am determined to get his naps to be better and was wondering if he was ready to start transitioning to a 4 hour routine.  It seems like he is ready for a four hr routine due to his feeds, the first feed is small then the next is big to make up for the next and we repeat this throughout the day.  Could be partly due to a full feed from a NW at around 4am.  Am trying to give less at that time and increase during the day, but when he is done eating he is done, its very difficult to get him to take a little more.

I've been trying to extend his A time by 15min.  today is our second day.  He seems to be very sleepy way before and even yawns so this tells me he is not ready.  What do you think?

45 minute naps usually =  in need of more A time

PU/PD really shouldn't be used until 4 months....way too overstimulating.
Also, if your lo is not on the correct EASY you shouldn't use it.
I'd hold off on PU/PD until the routine is all situation and your lo is a tad bit older.

Some lo's move to a four hour EASY prior to 4 months and some after.
4 months is just the average age.
If you think your lo is ready to handle it then I'd go for it.

Some lo's need to move gradually and others move cold turkey.
