We've been fighting the 45-minute-nap monster for some weeks now (at first it was the no-nap-demon, then the 30-minute nap!! so we're making progress!), and I have some questions, as I can't seem to extend DS's naps.
1) if he wakes after 45 min, should I try to extend his nap, or should i get him up and simply try to cram in more short naps?
2) If extend, how long should I shh-pat for before I just give up? (until the next feed?!?)
3) If I do shh-pat him until the next feed, but he's only "sort of" asleep, opening his eyes and fussing every 10 minutes or so, does it still count as a full nap?
4) If I get him up after 45 minutes, how long of an A time can I expect him to tolerate before needing another nap? (since his S is so messed up, I'm not good at reading his cues, and they keep changing anyway; what works one day is no good the next, so I'm doing a good bit of watch-watching.)
5) If I get him up, and give him another nap, I'm essentially looking at EASAS (no Y
) which is fine but what if that second S cuts into his next feed? Do I wake him up, or assume if he's still sleeping he needs it?
6) If we go EASAS, should the A time after the E be the full 1.5 hours again (which is what he can usually do after the first feed of the morning), since he's technically got the full amount of S?
As you can see, I'm sort of flying by the seat of my pants, but the longer this goes on, the worse my intuition is, because I'm pretty tired. So's he, which is why I'm so desparate to get this thing sorted out. It's so sad when he's crabby from lack of sleep. Any suggestions from anyone who's been in this boat would be EXTREMELY APPRECIATED! (I've read like every post on this site about short naps, and tried almost all the suggestions. I only got W2S to work once. I felt like queen of the world until his next nap!)
