Hello,
I have been trying to get my little Kanoa on a EASY for about 2 weeks now, still not much success as his naps are still 20,30,45 mins long + lots of night wakings (I don't get more than 4 hours of sleep a night!!). He's 14 weeks now, so supposedly, I should start him on a 3.5 EASY, but we're still battling with the 3hr one. I have lots of issues, but I would like to solve the nap problem first. We do the 4S ritual (sometimes for a very long time), but he does allow me to put him down in his crib and hopefully when he is still sleepy, but not quite yet asleep. I can't tell sometimes. Anyway, my question pertaining to W2S is this: Do I have to wake him before I stick in the paci or do I wait for him to jolt (hand pressure does not work for him!!!), twist (trying to get out of the swaddle), frown, pout, and finally let out a cry?? When he does let out a cry, I stick the paci in and he sucks and falls back to sleep. I've noticed that he's in REM or light sleep for a very long time, about 30,40,50 mins in that transition period before he goes into deep sleep again. It's like he wants to go back to sleep but he can't, and then he tries again and again. Sometimes he does the twisting and whimpering 2 - 3 times. Is that normal? My gut tells me that he has difficulty entering deep sleep and it takes not ONE, but more than ONE light sleep cycles to do it. Am I making any sense?? Anyhow, I'm asking the question about W2S because I wonder if waiting for him to whimpers and sticking the paci in has turned me and the paci into a prop!!!
