If she ate for 1/2 an hour on each side, that is an hour total, which is a lot of eating. Was that active eating? If so, I really am not sure why a supplement was offered. As they get older, offering top-ups afterwards is not a great way to judge if they are still hungry or not. Some babies will just take it anyway even if they are full, kind of like how adults will often eat dessert even if they have had a substantial meal beforehand. If she was fighting the suppliment like you say, she may have just given in and eaten after a while, as it was easier.

Hopefully the lc will have better ideas today. I really do not think this midwife has had any real experience in dealing with breastfeeding before.

don't know how i may help BUT

my little guy who is being a major PITA getting to take a bottle...will NOT drink breastmilk in a bottle.

IN FACT he screams and looks at me like "why the heck is this stuff in here??  i don't want it!"

I am in trials with different kinds of formula, trying to find at least one that he seems to like the taste of or that agrees with him....

but any of the pumping ive done, my only hope now is to start mixing that BM with his food at 6mths.  I just want the poor guy to be able to drink something when im not here (which right now is never, lol) AND i really thought the BM in a bottle would be easiest.

Could it be that she just doesn't want the BM from a bottle??

Other than that, i think she could be prefering the bottle to the breast.....but you are completely right!  This is one mysterious case---im sure these ladies will help you get things solved fast!

hang in there

It seems to have settled a bit today. She's eaten twice at the breast, on the right with no sheild :) She can't latch onto the left yet so I pumped. I was out and forgot my sheild and the bottles :-[ Not the best way to start the day..

She was hungry and all I had to offer was the breast. It took 10-15 min but she finally latched on and actually ate for 45 min the first time, on one side.. so when I got home I tried her again and she ate for another half hour then with the sheild she took the left for another 10 min.

No idea whats going on. I am soooo confused.. but greatfull she ate. I felt horrible when I realised I left home with no sheild OR bottles.

Oh hugs xx Glad things are getting better.

The screaming at the breast can really rock you, you have my sympathies for that. It seems like such a personal rejection when they do that.

Did you meet with your lc?

Hi Kimberly,

First of all, lots of hugs to you. Hang in there, everything will be ok! ;)
I'm not sure if I'll be able to help but, when your LO is hungry, have you ever tried to give her some drops in a small cup? This helps the baby to calm down and then latching should be easier.
I agree with what other mommys said, try to keep your milk supply up as much as you can!

Lidia

She just doesn't know what she wants I think LOL

She's been eating all day today like she never stopped :P I have to suppliment her, 1-2oz as she is still doing her hungry cry, but I've been popping her on earlier and more in the hopes that I can stop again.

She's been using the sheild on the left and no shield on the right :) So I am thrilled about that, maybe soon we can not use the sheild on the left too. Its not as inverted anymore.

She might be having a growth spurt today. You can put her back to the first breast again and let her get another letdown. That would be a good way to develop your supply if it is a growth spurt. Great news about the shield.

Her ticker even says 3wks exactly....probably is a growth spurt!

Well, she's on time!

See if it helps

She spent nearly 3 hours on the breast tonight, back and forth :P but she still just couldn't get enough. She downed 3oz, then another 2oz an hour later, and I finally got her down.

We did well though, the rest of the day she was on the breast only :) slow progress, but progress.

She was weighed today and she's up 6oz in a week ;D The Nurse Preactitioner gave me a perscription for something to take that can help increase my supply. I know what its called, but I am not even going to attempt to spell it :P

She said I should see results in a matter of days.

Thats the one :) I took my first one this AM..

Its also a med for heartburn, I have acid reflux :) Maybe I'll get luck and get 3 treatments in one LOL. The phamasist said to stop taking my Nexium for a few days and only start it again if the heartburn comes back. So I maybe not be taking it for a while.
