Hi,

DD is 13 weeks old tomorrow. She is only breastfed - i tried to introduce a late bottle that hubby could give her but she won't take a bottle or a dummy. I have been told she should only be waking once in the night - last few nights she is waking twice (her last feed is around 6.30pm) - should I be trying to re-settle her when she wakes up rather than feed her?
Her feeds look something like this
6.30/7 feed
10am
1pm
4pm
6.30pm
12 - 1am
3.30 am or 4am
then back to 6.30/7 am

I am not doing a later feed as she wont' take a bottle and I get to bed around 9pm - when I have tried waking her to BF she doesn't take much which doesn't make a difference to her next waking time. A couple of times she has gone through to around 3am then back to 6am which has been great but then she goes back to a 6 hr stretch then 3 hrs which I'm told she should be doing more. Also when I fed her at 3.30am this morning she would wasn't really intersted in feeding when she woke up at 6.30 - had to wait closer to 7am.

Am I being lazy by feeding her that 2nd time during the night or should I put the hard work in and re-settle (which is harder without a dummy).

Also as a general question re Breastfeeding - sometimes i'm finding it hard for her to feed as she is becoming distracted - toddler running around/looking out the window - should I be feeding her elsewhere? I'm worries she isn't getting  enough.

If it is not causing the 7 am feed to be poor, I'd keep it for now.

That said, focusing on getting bigger feeds during the day might help her need less at night.  Try feeding in a quiet, dimly lit room, and she may take more.  The distraction only gets worse!

HTH!

I don't think you're being lazy by feeding her twice at night.  Some babies still need 2 feedings at night at that age.  I agree with Carly re the morning feed.  If it is compromised then you may consider dropping it.  BTW, I think there is a GS at around 4 & 6 mos.  Definitely feed in a quiet room to get a better feed.  DS is still fed in his room as his sister is too much entertaining.

Here is some more info on night feeds, from the FAQs
https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=98183.0

2 night feeds at this age is very normal.  She is lasting about 6 hours from last feed to first night feed, which is awesome!  Your feeding routine looks very normal to me.

I would suggest feeding in a quiet/dim area to cut down on distractions.  Maybe look into a nursing necklace to wear to keep her focused on you...

Thanks - I feel better now.  :)
I am just finding the day feeds shorter as she keeps pulling off and looking around - doesnt seem to want a full feed which leads me feeling worried she isn't getting enough and feeding her again before sleep. I'll try taking her into her room and see if she takes fuller feeds.

Hi, If you don't think shes getting a full feed and she is distracted, you could try putting her down for 10-15 mins and then trying again. Is her weight gain ok? If so then i wouldn't worry.

Well last night she fed at 7.30pm then 4am then 7.15 am which I'm delighted at. What I am doing is taking her up to her room and wrapping her arms loosely and she seems to feed much better and longer - she was getting too distracted elsewhere and kept coming off and looking around. Weight gain has been just over 100 grams per week - I guess could be more, she also did 2 big poo's today.
