Dummy weaned and big thank you!
« on: June 10, 2008, 08:16:15 am »
I thought I would start a new post - just so more people could read it.
Last night was night 2 of getting rid of the dummy and for the first time in weeks and weeks, she slept from 7 - 2 (ate full feed) then slept from 2.45 to 7.15. It seems like a miracle. Can hardly believe it! Previously she was waking every 2 hours, all night it was awful, I felt like a zombie all the time.  We decided also to do away with the DF - this seemed to mess up her sleeping then she started waking for it - so over the past 2 nights we have just been seeing how it goes and I couldn't be more pleased.
Just wanted to say a huge huge thank you to all of those who have given support over the last weeks.

Hope that anyone else who is thinking that the dummy could be contributing - weaning it wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be. The longest it took was 40 mins of crying using PU/PD and shush/pat - that was the very first time, after that it was less every time. Now it is less than one minute and she is calm enough to basically go to sleep on her own.

Any ups and downs, I shall keep you posted, but from one previously very tired exhausted mum to all of those dealing with NW - it will get better
Anja xx

awesome! Glad to hear it wasn't as tough as you thought; I need to wean my dd soon. Your story gave me some confidence.  DD has only been on EASY for a week, and I just got her used to not relying on nursing to fall asleep so I don't know when to wean her from the dummy.  I don't want to introduce too many changes too quickly.  Thanks again for sharing!

The LO is just over 4 months. And had another good night last night - slept from 7 til 10.55 for a feed, then from 11.20 to 6am this morning. She has also had at least two 90 mins naps a day since stopping the dummy. Should have done it weeks ago - could have had much more sleep!!
Hope others weaning their LO off dummies goes as well as ours did.
Must say though, has taken lots of shush/pat - on the second day I thought times were going down - but they are now staying at between 5-10mins, which is a little tiring, but hopefully it will continue to get better - only on day 3.
good luck to those considering ditching the dummy!
