6 month old - 3-5am still patting/shushing for one month
« on: June 10, 2008, 23:09:38 pm »
I started to sleep train my ds one month ago and successfully got rid of the 1am feed within a few days; however, she still wakes once between 3-5 am. I pat/shush her back to sleep. Sometimes it takes 5 minutes and sometimes it takes 60minutes. How much longer will this take? She learned to fall asleep on her own and can put herself back to sleep at 1am. Why can't she do this at 3am? She has two 1.5-2hr naps a day and goes down no problems on her own. She goes to sleep between 7-7:30pm and I dreamfeed between 10-11pm.

Hello, and welcome!

What does your routine look like in the day (EAS style)?  Am I correct in thinking there is no catnap?

What does he do when he wakes at night (could it be a mantra cry/hunger?)?  Have you tried to feed him?  Have you tried pupd?

Have you started solids?

At this age it is completely normal to have one nightwaking... some babes wake at night up until a year.  It's great that you have been able to cut one night waking and I hope we can help you with the other one. :)

When she first wakes she is talking and playing in her crib. After a period of time she starts to cry and I pat/shush. She calms down very quickly, but as soon as I stop she cries again. I wait for a long time before stopping and I always think she is sleeping. It seems like she has become dependant on me patting her.
She is not interested in solids just yet. She has two naps a day.

6am - wake and feed
8:30-9am - nap
11am - feed

1-2pm - nap
3-4pm - feed
7-7:30pm - feed and bed

Other than the 1am feed being gone, there has been no change in a month.

I would say you may have become a prop and that is why she wakes and needs you to put her back down...

LOs usually wake between 3-6am but are able to put themselves back to sleep.  When you get wakings at this time that start out as giggles and talking that turn into crying and help to get back to sleep it usually means there is a prop that they need to get there.

You might check on the prop forum in the FAQ section to see how you can wean it...

also- did she every want a third nap?  (just curious as ds is coming up on this age)

How do you wean yourself from your LO if you have become a prop?
