Help with transition to a big bed for naps
« on: June 18, 2008, 00:30:32 am »
I have just moved my 19 month old to a big bed and it has been sucessful at night as its dark so he doesn't get out of bed and also cant open doors yet.  However I tried to put him down for his nap after lunch and he keeps getting up.  So he naps in his cot still.  Can anyone offer any suggestions.  I have read about reading books and giving him a wind down period.  But my concern is that if I start this I will always need to do this and I feel he should learn to settle himself.  My older son was always an angel baby and toddler and went for naps and night sleep no problem.  So it's like being a new mum all over again with 2nd lo.
Any advise would be great.
