Angela, thanks for the response on milke before solids question.  Surprisingly, my friends hv has told her to give solids beofre milk so that they will start taking less milk and to consider dropping a milk feed. Her lo is not 9 mths yet.  I guess she is too out-dated like the book!!

That doesnt surprise me in the slightest!! Most HV's/paeds have absolutely no idea about these things  ::) You would think they would really wouldnt you? No common sense! Anyway, dont get me started, I could ramble on about how most hv's/paeds/gp's are for ages  :P

I havent in troduced dinner yet as its too much for him in a short space of time....bf at 4pm, dinner, then bf before bed at 6:30....I think I will intro dinner when I drop the 4pm feed. He's just not hungry for it atm, and if he were i'd be worried he wouldnt have enough milk at bedtime, so going to hold off atm.

Nic, Josh also appears to have gone off banana  ::)

Angela, I think I'll follow your lead cos atm I feel there is not enough time either and he certainly doesn't seem hungry for it.
Is it around 10 mths they drop the 4pm feed. I know you've already told me (nappy brains!)

LOL Sharon!

I forgot to say what J has been eating....he has has some gammon the past few days..but I discovered the hard way not to give it to him in strips when he shoved the whole thing in his mouth and gagged on it  ::) So small chunks worked better. He had raisins after lunch today and picked them all up individually one after the other until him mouth was crammed full  :o He enjoyed them thats for sure!

Yesterday, we took him to a wedding....he doesnt have supper yes as we've been discussing, but to keep him quiet while we ate I gave him: some wholemeal roll, a slice of melon, some baked potato and some cold beef! I had to put it in him mouth to stop him getting his suit dirty but he didnt mine. He was the start of the show  ;D

Sharon, usually around the 10 month mark they drop to 3 feeds :) There is a great post in the milk feeding forums about this. Callie has 4 milk feeds and 3 meals.  Dinner is the only meal I limit at the moment as I don't want her too full for bedtime.

Tried quesadilla for lunch.  Ciara and I loved it but Callie gave it the beady eye and examined it with her hands for ages before even putting it near her mouth.  So funny.  She then had a tiny bite and screwed up her face.  LOL LOL LOL Devoured some cherries then went back to the quesadilla and had a little more.  Will try it again another day this week.

Tonight it is beef stew for dinner.  :)

Ang we posted at the same time ... awwwwwww @ suit!! Do we have pics?

Lol at Callie screwing up her face at the quesadilla!  That's waayyy too cute! :D  :D

Now that you ladies mention it, we've been having problems recently with DS not wanting to eat before bed, and I think it's because he's eating too much at dinner, and also the fact that he bf at 4:00, dinner at 5:30, and then I want him to bf again at 7:00....but that's just not happening, duh!  We haven't been doing lunch, so maybe I'll just move dinner to lunch, and stop doing dinner for a little while.

Would love to see pics of your lo in his suit!  Too cute!!!!!

Hi Ladies

Roxymum - it seems you've had all your questions answered by the lovely BLW experts but just wanted to say that your LO will get the hang of eating - it just takes time (and patience on your part  ;)) - and believe me I know cos it took my DD about 3 months to really start eating. I kept repeating the phrase 'until one food's just for fun' over and over in my head - every time I threw Alice's leftover or untouched food to our dogs LOL!! But now . . . I'm amazed at what she can eat - she's not in Callie's league (Nicola - it's probably quicker to list what Callie hasn't tried or doesn't eat  ;)) but she's getting there - might help if I was a better cook!!

As far as gagging is concerned - that's part of the territory (as everyone else has already said) - funnily enough it was the one thing I didn't worry about because I'd been warned about it on here - and I didn't want to panic in case it gave off the wrong vibes to Alice . . . unlike my MIL who reached over and took a piece of apple skin out of Alice's mouth cos she was convinced she was going to choke - I'm still not happy about that  :P Bananas were one of the things that made Alice gag - I think the soft texture didn't work for her. Haven't tried them in a while . . . apart from in the banana muffins which she demolishes!

I remember being confused about the milk and solids thing too when I started weaning - I too had just read the BWSAYP and it suggested solids then milk - however, I went with the advice from the lovely ladies on here - that well used phrase comes up again  . . . 'until one food's just for fun'  ;)

Okay - so it seems like a couple of you use spoons to feed yoghurt . . . so am thinking of having a go - any suggestions on which yoghurts to go for? Do you buy the little childrens' pots (petit filous, muller little stars, etc?) or just regular grown up stuff.

We tried raisins this morning - Alice picked them up one by one with her pincer grip and did get most of them but every so often would use her fist release to get the raisin in her mouth - doesn't quite work when the object you're trying to eat is between your thumb and forefinger!! So we did have a few on the floor, but they went down well.

Nicola - I think I might need to go and read the post about dropping to 3 milk feeds that you mentioned - am beginning to worry that Alice has too much milk (and maybe too much solids) as she has five milk feeds a day (tho one is a top-up before bed so don't know if that counts?) PLUS we haven't quite succeeded in getting rid of the DF either . . .

Ang - you have to post pics of J in a suit - how cute is that going to be? Sounds like he did you proud, bless him.

Berni,

Whilst I remember I just have to say ... you are a BLW expert!! Don't forget it!  You were such an inspiration to me when I started with Callie, sticking with it despite Alice only eating a little bit.  You've done a fab job :D

And for the record .. Callie's not fussed for scrambled eggs ;) I think the texture just freaks her out.  I HATE eggs (ask Awel) so I'm not too bothered about that thought!

Tonight we had beef stew, veg, mash pots and puff pastry :) Callie had some stew over the mash which she just scooped up in her paws and sucked :) charming.  Then I put some stew in the middle of some pastry (the soggier bottom bit) folded it into a sandwich and she guzzled it up herself.  I know puff pastry isn't the healthiest but she loved it as a one off!

Berni, I give Josh plain Yeo Valley Organic yoghurt...flavoured yoghurts have HUGE amounts of sugar in them. But you know my take on babies and sugar already  :P ::)

I dont seem to have any pics of J in his full suit...took his jacket off pretty quick dammit! I'm sure one will turn up, but in the meantime here are a few of him in the highchair....he had his first proper haircut yesterday too  ;D

OH MY ANG!!!!  :o Little Josh is a STUNNER, he is just too too cute  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I HATE eggs (ask Awel)

LMAO!!  I can indeedy confirm that Nicola is FREAKY re:eggs  ;) :-*

Just trying to pick up some ideas on finger foods from you lovely ladies.  Ioan isn't doing BLW per se as he needs his mushed stuff shovelled in VERY quickly otherwise he gets most irrate  ::) (TOTALLY TOTALLY different from his sister) but we do finger foods too, but I am getting stale already.

We do:

toast
rice cakes (not a favourite with him)
tinned peaches
cheese
bread and butter
watermelon (loves it)
cucumber (loves it)
banana (slippery little sucker, to quote Julia Roberts)

He's 7 months now - what else should I/can I give him??

Answers on a postcard please  :-*

Awel,

Hello, nice to see you this neck of the woods!

Check out the Finger Foods for Young Babies thread in the Recipes section, loads of fabulous recipes on there :)

Am also a fan of the Yeo Valley organic yogurts - must be a Hampshire thing eh?

I also give Lewis the yeo valley plain organic yoghurt. I will just add fruit to them to sweeten them sometimes.

Angela, Josh is gorgeous.   ;D

Nicola, I'll have a look at the milk feeding forum. Thanks

Have a good day ;D

Ang ... we got a dragonfruit last week after reading that J loves them.  They are so boring! They don't taste of anything!! Is that right?! Maybe mine was a dud?!

Eggs, the versatility freaks me out.  How something slipperly can transform into an omlette, a poached egg, a boiled egg etc is just WRONG!! Now ... cream eggs are a different story :D
