That's more than Lisi eats! Go Josh! Norah's not a big fan either, seems to be a texture thing.

Hi there

After reading that Josh eats a whole banana for breakfast (go Josh go!) I thought it was about time we re-tried banana - the only way Alice seemed to eat it was if it was disguised in a muffin - that's my girl  ;) I think it was a texture thing for Alice too TBH - she was funny about anything that she could squish in her hands, and it was one of the things that made her gag.

So I at lunch yesterday I shared a banana with her - breaking off chunks rather than overfacing her - she made 'that face' with the first piece but then shoved in chunk after chunk - must have done a good 1/3 of a big banana. We tried again at breakfast and we had the same result - so it seems that bananas are on the list of favourites for this week at least  ;)

The other fruit (she can't get enough of the stuff) that we re-tried this week was mango - again I'd chopped one into chunks and she wolfed that down too. So she's going tropical at the moment - tho cherries and blueberries are still a massive hit.

Am still worried that I'm going to feed her too much fruit - I think she would happily live on it if I let her  ;) We tend to have a bit of fruit with each meal - but I stop giving her it before she stops refusing it, kwim? Am never sure if she's full when I finish - or she's just greedy where fruit is concerned and would make herself sick if I let her  :P

I know exactly waht you mean -  I have the exact same dilemma!!  though they say bf babies will self regulate though I wonder where L puts it all and he would keep eating I think.

L loves bananas too, can eat a whole one no probs!

we had a continental breakfast this morning in the p**ing rain in scotland.  croissants and fruit though then had a guilt trip cos criossants may have too much salt!!

L has cold again, seems to be every month at the moment and I always get it too. We're off to family reunion thing at weekend (DH's family) so can't wait to show off Lewis with his eating skills.  There will be quite a few other babies there too so will be interesting to see how their eating habits are.

Questions of the day:

Do you guys just half grapes when you give them to your los? Lewis seems to have trouble swallowing them, they always seem to pop back out.

Over the last few days L doesn't seem to take very much at his 4pm feed, yesterday he fed for less than 4 mins. Is this a sign he can drop this and replace with solids or should I decrease solids?  At the mo he is on 4 feeds a day. He is 9 1/2 mths.

Have a good day.

Sharon

Hey girls!

LOL at the fruit gang! Josh has also recently discovered mangos and cherries are rather yummy  :P

I too always stop giving food rather than wait for J to refuse....he'd be eating all day if I let him  ::) I really cant imagine that EVERY baby wont overfeed themselves. Its already a struggle to get J to bf most of the time (I'm pretty sure he's going to self-wean early), so I have to make sure I limit solids or he's start refusing the breast altogether i'm sure  :-\

Glad A loves the bananas! I will only eat them when they're still a bit green, cant STAND ripe banana  :-X But its good that the babies love them  :D

Sharon, I recently dropped to 3 feeds, bang on 10 months. We were having rubbish 11am and 4pm feeds for a few weeks previously, so decided when he hit 10 months just to cosolidate those 2 feeds into one at 12pm. He feeds better now (although still not both boobs like I was hoping!!). So see how it goes, you can either try it now or wait a few more weeks. I do offer J some milk in a sippy when he wakes from his nap as he's usually thirsty...I would offer him boob (if I do he has a min or 2 to quench his thirst), but I find its good sippy practice  :)

Saying all that, I do now let J eat more seeing as he's dropped to 3 feeds.

hi everyone,
i haven't read through the previous threads but i have a question about BLW... did people find that their LOs wanted to pick up extra feeds at night while they were at the 'playing with food but not eating much' stage?? My LO is 14 months now, but i'm thinking about baby number 2 and whether to do BLW with them (not that they are even on the way yet, but thats the plan). I just know I was so nervous with my dd that she wouldn't eat the right quantity of food that even though i knew about BLW i still always found myself tempted to spoon feed her as i thought that might help her drop her night feeds. just curious what people have found

Hi Jessie and welcome,

It is actually a myth that solid food will help your baby sttn. No solid food that you can give them is high enough in calories to sustain a baby overnight...milk is what they need. Milk should be a lo's main source of nutrition until close to 12 months....."until one, food's just for fun" as the saying goes.

So no, I dont think you will find many people whose babies picked up extra night feeds whilst weaning. There are a few very useful links here, take a look  :) :

My LC friend says 3 feeds at 9 mo is fine, but not less.

Grapes - I've read that you shouldn't give whole grapes until they're something like 15. No, 3 or 4. Saying that, I always did as L liked the popping sensation. Wholesome baby food says to quater them.

Jessie, so far N hasn't woken up either more or less but we're right at the beginning. To be honest, if you want to fill your LO up before a year you'd be much better to persuade them to take an extra milk feed if you can as it's higher in calories and nutrients than almost all first foods. The risk of giving too much solids is that instead of eating that and taking the same amount of milk they'd just cut back on the milk giving fewer overall calories (and goodness).

I've got something to show you:
N self feeding millet cereal (now I take back all I said about shredded wheat  ;))

followed by Lisi's baby getting her first solids (yummy beads!)

excuse the PIGSTY that is my living room! And as you can see, we solved the problem of where to sit Norah to eat - she can sit up rather better than I thought!

Brilliant Katie!! lovely pics  ;D

Oh yes, I forgot to reply about the grapes...I skin them (BIG faff, but he doesnt get on so well with the skin) then quarter them and they arent a problem. In fact, I think I may even give up skinning them now.
