I didn't know about that thread - had I, I wouldn't have been inflicting them on you here. Sorry! Those are lovely pics. There's something so wonderful about seeing a baby do things for themselves, such determination and satisfaction on their faces. Ahhhhhh.

I'll get intouch with the lounge mods and get them to merge mine onto it. Oh, the ones I posted here, Alison, can you merge them for me?

All I can say at the moment is FENNEL Norah thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread (so to say) she even drinks the water I steamed it in (nasty mummy again)

Im not sure about this... Finn just doesnt seem to be getting much in his mouth!!! I think maybe he isnt developmentally ready, he can get stuff to his mouth but keeps dropping it and the slippery things just annoy him!! Im fine with the gagging and everything else but I just wonder what the point is if hes not actually eating anything?!

Should I wait a little while longer? Cant see him being anymore able in 2 weeks when hes 6 months? Should I offer purees until he is ready?

Hes showing no signs of needing anything else depsite him being 19lbs and only drinking 32oz of milk a day.  He's so content and slept 13 hours last night :o :o Does he need more??

Norah took a good 2 weeks of playing, chewing, spitting, smearing and all that before she worked out swallowing. It's not about eating at the moment but far more the experimenting with this new edible toy. Fin probably doesn't care one way or another right now if you just give him a spoon or sippy cup to play with at meal times or if it's real food.

I don't think of it in terms of needing more or not - a big meal for Norah contains, oooh I don't know, maybe 50 calories, eg lunch - 3 carrot sticks (at least a half were spat out) and a half rice cake with a smear of stewed apples. Milk is what keeps them going at this age. Introducing food is just for practice rather than nutrition.

Can I quietly seethe with envy at the 13 hours sleep...

Hi there

Been busy round here lately - must be cos Nicola is back LOL  ;) I just can't keep up with you all . . . am trying to do more with my Y time than just chatting on the boards - but all I end up doing is trying to get jobs done and failing miserably anyway . . . so thought I'd come and chat - after all the mess will still be there  :P

Welcome to the new ladies - Clare I just have to say that it took my DD a good 3 months before she started eating anything 'substantial' - she did suck on a few bits and pieces but other than that it was a very long journey. I kept telling myself 'until one food is just for fun' - as Alison (Freya'sMum) had pointed out to me - and tried to be as patient as I could . . . have to say that it was SO worth the wait.  ;D

Not sure how long those bumbo feeding trays have been available - hadn't seen them until the link on here a couple of weeks ago - but wish I'd had one when we first started out with Alice as I'm sure it would have been easier than having her sat on my knee  :P - now that she sits so well in her high chair (apart from trying to put her foot up on the tray  ::)) it's hard to think she used to slip down only a few months ago.

Still feel like we are feeding the same things over and over again (Sharon - how did Lewis get on with the Doner Kebab?  ;)) - TBH I still think Alice would live on fruit if I let her - hope it's not her developing a sweet tooth already  :P

We're down to 3 x BF a day - have dropped the afternoon feed (with distraction techniques!!) and have also dropped the DF too - however we are offering EBM in a sippy cup with meals as I want Alice to get used to taking milk from her cup - bizarre thing is that she doesn't hold the sippy herself anymore and I have to do it - complete turn around as she used to kick off if I tried to help her - not sure if that's a bit of a backward step  :P

Still having major meltdowns with face and hand wiping - it's like the end of the world once the face cloth comes out  :( Think I remember Ang saying that she sings to diffuse the situation - I've been singing 'This is the way we wipe our face / hands to get the food off' for months now and it still doesn't work  :P Just think it's something I have to accept (like the post-bath meltdowns, the getting dressed meltdowns, and the nappy change meltdowns  :P) - such a shame to finish off a fun meal time that way tho  :-\

Hope you all have a good weekend  ;D

Thanks for the links Angela, i'll have a read.

I found our very own BW too Alison, thank you!

I am not totally ready to jump in but did give her the sliced pears in the feeder (how does that work into the theory?  She feeds herself too but w/o the choking fear...for mommy).  She loved it, so far this morning she has eaten 3 slices of pear...how much do i give her or just keep it coming until she doesn't want anymore?

Hi Ladies

welcome to the new ladies - I hope you decide to follow through on blw, it's such a joy and you get great support here.  You do have to be patient but it is sooo worth it.

Well Lewis loved his 'donner', wolfed the lot.  Nowt wrong with a kebab now and then is there - next you'll be telling me that chicken mcnuggets isn't good for lunch ;D ;D ;D

Berni, funny thing is Lewis seems to be wanting fed now too.  Strange little people, he still eats loads so not too bothered about it. I'm sure he'll change back soon.

Meg's mom - I'm still never sure how much to feed Lewis. I think he would eat all day if given half a chance, so I tend to limit it now. At the beginning I didn't limit it though cos he ate so little to start.

Katie, I've never tasted fennel but I have to agree with Nicola, eww at fennel water.

Nic, will go and have a look at the thread, didn't know it was there.

Thanks SMCK - i gave her rice cake this am for breakfast and after playing w/ it for ages she did manage to get some in her mouth.  I cooked some carrots for lunch but we went out and i chickened out so didn't give it.  I have some notes of some food to get at the store when i go shopping...baby steps indeed.

Hi there

Sharon - so pleased that Lewis enjoyed the Doner Kebab . . . and I don't think there's anything wrong with chicken mcnuggets for lunch - am sure they are classed as a finger food aren't they?  ;)

We had spicy tuna risotto for tea - so after being stuck in a food rut for so long I just threw caution to the wind and gave Alice some - she couldn't get it down quick enough tho it was a tad messy LOL - good job the clean police weren't doing random checks  ;)

Good to know I don't have the only LO who detests face/hand wiping.
If DH does it she's fine, little stinker. I sing or do the gonna getcha game & sometimes it works.

So how much solids are other 9 mo old eating? My babe will eat & eat & eat. One day I did feed her about 10 oz for dinner, which in hindsight I realize was the wrong time to do so. She does spit up, but she always has. If I feed her more, she does usually spit up more, so I tend to limit her eating. My mom suggested adding in some snacks, but then I feel like Im back to feeding her all the time.

I still do 4 BF, but maybe I should cut to 3? Im just leery or doing so as I dont really feel like then BM is primary source of nutrition. She does have some feedings that are only 10 mins long, which is really short for her.

My lo hates having his face wiped as well!!  My guy is 10 months and he has never been a good eater.  Now on solids, he gags, and will not eat anything with texture.  We are on the path to cutting back to three bottles as well, so I am making one of his bottles less milk to try to add it into the other bottles during the day at some point.  Good luck, I really dont have much more than that, as we are just trying it as well!!

Lashwish, are you doing purees? I get that impression as you said how much you feed i.e 10oz....not sure this is the right thread for you if this is the case?

Most dont drop to 3 feeds until 10 months  :)

yes, i do mostly purees & some finger foods...
why is that not the right place for this thread? is this just for non pureed foods?

when do u stop pureeing anyway?
my 9m old does mash food & has been eating chunkier food for several months now
