baby led weaning is a way of introducing solid foods without ever pureeing them - letting babies feed themselves from the very beginning. You can find out about the theory here: http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=92560.0

at 6 months old mine started on carrot sticks, cucumber and rice cakes for example

What Katie said  :)

No purees in sight here....but you're welcome to join in for finger food ideas though if you like!

J started on roasted sweet potato spears, banana & avocado as far as I can remember....it wasnt that long ago (in fact he's only really been eating for 3 months) but my mumnesia plays tricks with my brain  :P ::)

Hey Nic!

Well, Josh is being super fussy about veg atm so I made some veggie patties (potatoes, bread, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, cheese, sprinkling of paprika, mooshed up, made into patties and baked)...he likes them  ;D

He is STILL teething massively so isnt eating a huge amount. His first molar is through, and the others are almost there  ::)

I am making sure I get a new set of fruit for him to eat every week else he gets bored...last week it was pear, apple & kiwi, this week blueberries, apple & pineapple, next week bananas, dragon fruit & pear  ;)

He had some of our dinner the other day....basil pasta with sausage, tomato, basil and mozzarella sauce...I have some pics of him covered in it (he like to try feeding his eye  ::) ) I will post on the BLW thread!

Fussy bloke :P

Callie is being super fussy too - seems to be lasting for ages!! One day she loves something and the next she won't touch it.  One day she eats everything in sight then the next day she turns her nose up at everything in sight.  Totally normal I am sure, but a total PITA at the same time.

ATM she looks at what is on offer and if she doesn't like it she starts to stretch about in her chair, bumping her back off of the back of the seat ::) Such a trial being a baby, isn't it!?  I'm a bit stumped as to whether I should offer something different or just move on.  Today she didn't want egg sandwich (can't blame her :P ), roast potato, chicken or veg all of which she likes.  Left her for a while and then offered fruit course which she squished up! MENACE!

Menace indeed!

Fussy fussy bubs....I have found that if I give J an Organix crunchy ring he *might* start eating whatever else is on offer....he turned his nose up and the avocado and veggie pattie on the dinner menu tonight, was offered at crunchy ring by a (quietly) exasperated mummy, and hey presto he started muching on the avo straight after! Babies eh?  ::)

welcome to my life! Lisi is a totally faddy eater, will gobble something up for weeks then announce she doesn't like it. In England she ate nothing but fruit and that for 10 days straight. She seems to be a born food combiner - I'll almost never get a carbs week to coincide with a protein one.

If you start cooking alternatives Nic, take it from me - it'll drive you over the edge when that alternative is refused too! I ususally offer L an alternative but only something that doesn't need cooking, bread and cheese, fruit, yogurt etc. I'm still trying to learn my lesson: it's my job to provide a healthy meal, it's her job to eat it and she's not going to starve herself just to irritate me.

So far no fussies from Norah, but then again 6 weeks of food is hardly something to go by ;-)

very wise words Katie - think I might print them out and attach them to the wall above the table!

Tonight she ate ONE cube of sweet potato and that was it :o

Why does food refusal make us so irrational?! I am stumped because she has always eaten so well but the rational part of me knows that babies/children/adults can choose what they eat when they want to eat it.  I know that babies go thru phases of being fussy.  I know that all I need to do is provide the food, make meal times a fun, happy and stressfree time but seriously it makes me want to SCREAM!!!!! Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :P :P

Thanks for listening!! Just wanted to add that callie is currently eating the ikea book :P RASCAL!

LOL Norah tried eating the newspaper at supper time.

Food is so emotive isn't it. Nothing warms the cockles more than seeing your children tuck in. Food refusal feels a personal affront. I don't know why either, but I do feel personally insulted when L won't eat a meal I've cooked for her. Doesn't help that she's never ever rejected a meal tha MIL has cooked  ::) >:(

At least with BLW you can't fall into the trap of coaxing the spoon into the mouth through airplane games or hiding stuff on the spoon under other things. Boy, those have back fired on me (often all over my face  :-X)

Glad it's not just me that feels like that with food refusal.

Lewis has taken to looking at some of the foods I put down to him as if they are poison and then promptly tosses them over the side of the highchair - cheeky monkey ;D

Can I ask about your lo's 'output ' :P  Lewis is sometimes having 4 poos a day. Anyone else having that many?  Anyone know if I should I be concerned about it?

Sorry, but this makes me feel so much better!!

Callie seems to either poo all day long or doesn't go for days ::)

Josh averages one a day, sometimes 2......he isnt as bunged up as he used to be, they are of the soft variety now rather than the pebbly kind! TMI I know  ::) I make sure I give him something to help it along everyday....pear, blueberries (called "blubes" in our house  :P ), ripe banana, sweetcorn, raisins, prunes...something along those lines. Seems to work!

He got up late today so we are currently having breakfast of toast, kiwi and apple. The kiwi and the apple have a date with the floor, apparently  ::) Toast went down the hatch though!  ;)
