How to extend cat napper without paci?
« on: June 23, 2008, 09:10:29 am »
Hi All,

I have stopped using a paci 4 days ago. My 16w textbook baby has always been a catnapper, 30 to 45mins sleeps. I used to be able to extend her lunch nap by going in and giving paci/covering eyes as soon as she started to rouse but now not using paci. Can anyone give me advice on how to extend now?

rountine looks like this

E 7am BF
A nappy/playgym
S 8.30-9 (30-45 mins)
A cuddles
E 10am BF
A songs/ nappy off etc
S 11-11.30 (30 to 45 mins)
A book/ rattle/ cuddle etc
E 1pm BF
A rattle/  cuddles/ nappy off or walk
S 2 hrs after last nap 2pm ish
A go out or more play
E 4pm BF + baby rice
S short sleep 4.30 (often in car, as this is guaranted to put her to sleep)
A nudie time/ shower
E BF 6pm
S bed 7pm
E dreamfeed 10.30
E night feed 5am

I am in the same boat... 2 weeks w/o paci EXCEPT when extending naps!  That's the only time I offer it to him.  He is a very sucky baby and hasn't quite found his thumb or fingers to replace the paci.  So I have gone back to giving it to him just for that reason.  The other thing that sometimes works is shush/pat!  Or you can try a lovey.  Good luck and let me know if you find a way that really works well.  I will try anything!!!

do you think he might be ready for more A time and moving in the direction of a 3.5 or 4 hr EASY?  Sometimes that will help extend a nap.

I had just been thinking about that this morning because she no longer gives me any clear tired signs before naps, I might try 3.5hrs today and see how we go.

Thanks

she seems to have gotten over the no dummy thing well and her naps have extended out to 45 mins from 35, so at least she is getting a full sleep cycle. The last couple of mornings she has slept nearly an hour, of her own accord. So things are slowly improving, thanks for your advice and help, it is much appreciated  :)
