Schedule for a 2 year old
« on: June 23, 2008, 12:54:48 pm »
Hi all,

I'm a bit confused and cannot seem to get ds' schedule right!  Up until about a month or so ago, our schedule was this:

7:30 up
2:00 - 3:30 nap (tried to get him down earlier for naps, but can't seem to do it before 2:00!)
7:45 bedtime, asleep by 8:15 or 8:30

What has changed is that ds now wants to nap at least 2 hours.

Here is what all I've tried:

-Waking him from his naps after 90 minutes, which only makes for a grumpy boy!
-Pushing bedtime to later (8:15) and then later again (8:30).  Thought maybe he was also needing less overall sleep.  Both instances either resulted in him babbling and laying awake until 9:30 or 10:00! and then he would want to sleep in the next morning, throwing it all out of whack again!

Our schedule is flying out the window and I don't know what to do to fix it!  He was so predictable for so long and now this is throwing me for a loop.

TIA,
Cindy

Just wanted to comment that we had the same things going on.  I honestly worked really hard to put her down by 1:15-1:30 and then let her sleep the 2 hours if she needed it.  Then we play extra hard in the evening to get her tired.   Good Luck to you.  I know it can be frustrating when they all the sudden change.

You could try to move the nap up by 15 minutes every few days until you get it where you want.  I find that my 2 year old needs at least 6 hours A time before bed

Thanks ladies.  Today ds was awake and crying at 6:15.  He's now OT, but to be honest, it was ok tho, cause I knew that meant an early naptime and decent bedtime!  DH is on duty tonight, so he'll be pleased. :)

Lana, is that 6 hours A time before naptime and bedtime both?

Teresa, I'll give pushing up naptimes a shot again.  Especially because that would be my preference!

Oh, if only they came with sleepytime clocks on their foreheads...
