Meltdown after changing to 3.5 EASY
« on: June 23, 2008, 17:13:22 pm »
My little one is 18 weeks old I have recently started him on 3.5 EASY from 3 hour EASY.  However the last nap of the day seems to have turned into meltdown time.  The routine seems all to pot today but generally this is how it goes

W  7am
E   7.30 am
A
S   8.40 ish until about 10 ish
A
E   10.30 am
A
S   Between 12.15 and 12.30 ish until about 2 ish (At the moment this seems to be his best sleep of the day)
E    2.30 p.m
A
S   3.45 pm ish until 4.30 pm - then he will not go back to sleep even with dummy.  He just cries and cries until i feed him
E   5.10 ish - to stop him from crying
A   5.40  Bath and 6 p. top up feed before bed
S   About 6 ish

I am aiming for 12 hour day - so bed at 7 pm - but the short last nap has meant that I have brought bedtime forward as he is so tired.  I am not sure where I am going wrong - this has happened for the last 5 nights.

Today went to pot because i put him in his own room for his first nap and he took so long to go to sleep he was OT and only slept for 30 mins.  However I put him down for last nap of the day at 3 pm (he was rubbing his eyes) and again he woke 45 mins later and would not go to sleep.  I have had to build in a catnap today otherwise i would be putting him to bed really early.  I feel like we are going backwards.

Help!

Do you think you could perhaps be changing too many things at once?

Where was your lo originally napping before putting him in his own room?

If your lo seems OT, I would go back to your normal routine, and let your lo settle back down, and then try again in a few days time.

Thanks for your reply.

My LO was napping in his crib in our room and he has been able to nap in the travel cot so I thought that the transition to his own room would not be too difficult - I think that there are too many things for him to look at so need to make the room darker!

It could well be that I need to get him on 4 hour EASY before changing his sleeping arrangements - however this meltdown started about 4 days before I did anything about this.

Hmmm.

Do you think that his cat nap needs to be slightly later?  Maybe about 15 mins?

i feel ya Jolamo! my LO is not doing to so well with napping at the moment! but something inside me is telling me it could be due to irritability with teething and possibly a growth spurt...

Funny you should say that - whilst my lO was screaming yesterday I noticed a little white line on the front of his lower gum so he may be teething too!  He normally has a dummy but sometimes he will not take it and I think this may be becuase his gums are hurting him.

He is awake now as I had to put him down for his nap about 45 minutes early - he woke up at 6 instead of 7 and now will not nap past the 45 minute mark - arrrgghhh the routine is all out again!!!
