I personally was in a cot until just before I went to kindergarten!  In our case it was a matter of how to fit 5 kids into 2 bedrooms and having me in a crib that late bought them more time!  But, still.  I have to wonder what my mother was thinking... :)

Yes, I can remember crawling into it.

Me too!

Emma...I intend to keep Sophia in her crib/cot for as long as she will let me. I dread the same things you do...she has such pretty thing in her room, I shudder to think if anything will stay in one piece if she moves to a BGB. I also imagine that the whole wind down and bedtime routine will have to absolutely change once this happens? Perhaps a longer wind down?

It took a longer wind down for us, but only for a few weeks.  DS climbed out at 20 months.

We cleared out his room too, but he can't open the door to get out.  For a few weeks, this new freedom was huge for him and we'd hear him get out and explore...we'd hear some bangs and thuds too as he threw his books out of his bed and back in.  This messed with naps and bedtime for a few weeks and resulted in some OT.

Now he still gets out, but crawls back in and sleepy times are back to "normal".  So, the noveltly does wear off.

Thanks so much....good to know that the novelty does wear off eventually. I guess havign to deal with the inevitable is just par for the course...
