My DS is 24 weeks old , a few days shy of 6 months and all of a sudden he is suffering badly from trapped wind.
i dont know if i should call it colic cos he does not cry for a long time but he really struggles to pass out wind. he is alright burping and can do that on his own most times but he can't seem to pass out wind from the other end.
he wakes up like three times at night and early mornings , it is getting worse now as it is happening during the day. when he was exclusively breastfed he was very windy,  it eased off for about two weeks and he starte sleeping through the night until suddenly it started and it is worse now
i have tried gripe water, infancol, dentinox , changed his formula yesterday , give him water , bicycle kicks, tummy massge but nothing is working
my health visitor has offered no help , not even a visit..
yesterday i made an emergency appointment to see the doctor, and well he thot it was not an emergency.. he said to come back in a months time!
any one got ideas, i am really  cos i go back to work in a few weeks, i will really appreciate ideas.
many thanks

Huge hugs.

What formula were you originally using and what formula are you using now?

Are you in the UK?

There are formulas which are more gentle on the tummy.  In the UK Cow and Gate have a formula called Comfort and that is easier on the tummy, and apprently easier to digest.

i have just read my post and i cant believe i have got his age messed up  ;D
he is 24 weeks old and a few days shy of 6 months
Does the Cow and Gate reduce colic i am not even sure what is wrong. colic, wind trapped air, griping pain...oh well!!!!!!!!!!
today he started refusing his bottle!
do you think i should try the cow nd gate comfort?
thanks for taking out time to read and reply

baby rice in particular can be quite constipating, same with banana. Maybe try something like pears and oat cereal, they're much easier for most babies to digest.

The higher iron content in follow on formula can cause constipation too.  You can stay on SMA gold you don't have to change to follow on at 6 months.

I think you need to try one thing at a time, so you know what's causing any changes!
Can you do another day or so of just bf, don't change the solids in the meantime. If that's ok, reintroduce the sma gold. If the wind comes back, maybe try another formula for a few days. Then if different formulas don't seem to make any difference, experiment with different foods.
It's so hard sometimes, you're so close to it you can't see the forest for the trees! We've had weeks of unsettled nights with our dd due to wind, and I've only just figured out it's probably due to foremilk imbalance - something we had big problems with when she was smaller, and now she's feeding less frequently, seems to be becoming a problem again.
Good luck!

I agree about the follow on formula being very constipating.  We switched to followon with our DS and he suffered terribly with constipation.

If you did decide to switch formulas, Cow and Gate Comfort may be your best bet with regards to easier to digest formulas.

Again I agree about the rice cereal.  However, bananas are one of those fruits that can either constipate or help your lo go to the toilet.  When DS was extremely constipated, we had to makes sure he had a banana a  day to keep him regular and it worked wonders.

Huge hugs.

Good luck, keep us posted.

I personally would start with the stage 1.  Especially if your lo is constipated.
