Does anyone else have a baby with short A times?
« on: July 01, 2008, 04:37:08 am »
Hi,

My ds is 4mths1week.  Currently he is on 3 hour easy because he only has short A times.  Approximately 1 to 1 1/2 hours.  I have tried extending his activity times but he just gets over-tired and then has a really bad nap and then gets even more over-tired.  At the moment I've just decided to try to watch his cues and not the clock.  Has anyone else experienced this?  And did you find that your baby extended their A time at there own pace?

Thanks

If your baby is napping well...1.5-2 hour long naps and is sleeping fine at night, I wouldn't worry about it.
Your lo will let you know when it's time to move to a 4 hour EASY

My baby wasn't able to handle 2 hours of A time until almost 5 months of age.

I am so in love with my husband and adore my precious Grace

 Hi Suzyfoxnz,

DD is almost the same age as you LO. We were on 3.5 hours easy but it's been a week or so that I started BF'ing her 4 hourly. She can't handle 2 hours of 'A' time, though. She takes longer naps ( 2 to 2.5 hours) or we do EASAS. So far, we've been doing fine and I've been trying to extend this to 2 hours, but not watching the clock, just watching her tiredness cues.
if he's taking full feeds even at 3 hours routine, I wouldn't do anything, though. Like Grace's mom said, your LO will show you when it's time to move to 4 hour EASY
 hth  :)

is your lo spirited? most of us with spirited lo went through this as they generally lag behind in A time until the 2nd half of their first year (mine caught up around 5-6 mo and then had bigger than average A times until dropping to 1 nap at 11 mo)  if lo is spirited there is a whole support thread for that where you will find loads of moms talking about things that will be of interest to you

Hi my lo is nearly 4 months in a few days and i cant seem to extend A time, although all other signs say he needs a routine change and possibly to 4 hours! His naps are bad, they are short and he is waking at night etc. So im going to try extending A time tomrrow to 2 hours! going to try cold turkey and see if it works! of course give it a few days, i thought i would try with an increase in A times in the am and then after a few days with the pm, anyways lets ee how tomorrow goes. I;ll let you know how the day went!
