Naps getting shorter at 5 months
« on: July 10, 2008, 15:39:59 pm »
Hi, everyone.  My 5-month-old has always been a pretty good napper (night sleep is another story), but lately his 1.5-hour naps have been getting shorter and shorter.  It can now be just over an hour and this morning it was just 45 minutes!   He often wakes up and coos in his crib, so I wonder if he is just always waking at the 45 minute mark, but doesn't cry for me until after an hour.  Perhaps his awake times are too short now?  But he gets really antsy after just being awake 1.5 hours and barely makes it to 2 hours (see my posting on the activity board).  He's also a screamy eater, and I wonder if it's because he's trying to go back to sleep on my breast.  Here is our current schedule - any ideas?

6am - wake and eat
8am - first nap (1-1.5 hours)
9:30 - eat
11:30 - nap (1-1.5 hours)
1pm - eat
3pm - nap (1-1.5 hours, or sometimes just 45 minutes, if he woke later than 6am or if one of the other naps is longer)
4:30 or 5pm - eat
6:30 - sleep
9pm - dreamfeed (although sometimes he wakes at 7:30 or 8 so I just feed him then)
3am - night feeding (trying to get rid of this but he doesn't agree)

hi
here is a link for you

https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=85135.0

at 5 mo most babies can do 2 hours to 2 hours 15 min and are taking 2x1.5 to 2 hour nap and a 45 min catnap. i would say the short naps are because he needs slightly longer A times.  if you stretch him by  10 min does this make a difference?  and shorten up the 3rd nap (which it sound like he's doing by himself).

Hmm, the short nap is over.  We just moved and he must be over-tired and overstimulated by the new surroundings.  He is napping long and hard these days.  Maybe that will change when we settle in.  More soon...
