I think that you need to give a full feed at 3.00/3.30am and stop the 5.00am feed.  This early feed (5.00am) is just perpetuating the EW.  Make sense?  You need to do a 3.00am feed and a 7.00am feed only.

You can be flexible with feeds, but I would always try to feed after she wakes, rather than prior to a nap.

Thanks for the info of not feeding her at 5am :)  (I was wondering that I might have contributed to EW)

Yesterday DD rested for only 40 min for both naps . . . I made sure she slept at 6.30pm instead of 8pm (to avoid OT) BUT. .  she woke up at 10.30pm and refuse to sleep till 1.30am  ( she played till around 1 hr then cried all the way )

DH jostled her at 4am but she work up at 5am still . . .

I was thinking of giving the one nap a go at it. . . I think it makes no difference if she has multiple NW and refusal to sleep up to 3 hr  . . .  both will result in OT . . . if this one nap doesn't work for her at least I can eliminate this option and work on tweaking the A and naps. . .  What do you think?

I think DD ready for the one nap. . .

Yesterday our routine was like this ( we did not do this deliberately . . . we were just soo sleep deprived that we didn't even look at the time)

5am            - woke up
5.30            - BF
6.30            - breakfast
7.30 - 9.20   - A time (most of the time she played by her self in her cot occasionally we would take turns to play with
                    her)
9.30am        - nap ( DH fell asleep while playing with her then we suddenly realised that it was so late . . . not intentional
just too tired. . . she didn't even look tired )

10.20am      - she woke up
11am          - BF (ML dropped by . .  kept playing with her until I insisted that she needed her milk . . .she drank one side only
kept fighting with me and was more interested in playing than feeding)
11.30         - lunch
12noon      - A time
12.30pm     - nap (showed some signs of tiredness was afraid that she might have OT herself so put her to bed earlier. . .)

1.20pm       - woke up
2.30pm       - BF
3pm           - A time (we went out )
5pm           - dinner
5.30pm       - A time (we had visitors who appeared at our door step without notifying us beforehand . . she didn't want to sleep
                   and played with them)
6.30           - BF
7pm           - slept

The amazing thing was she did cried at 9pm (but pat her back to sleep) and only woke up at 12am and 4am for feeds and she woke up at 7am today :)  I think she just might be ready for the one nap because her A time in the morning was 4.5hr . . . will update you again tomorrow. . .

Hi good morning :)

Yesterday (sunday) DD did a 4.5hr of A time in the morning. . . took a long nap of almost 2 hrs then refuse to sleep . . .we tried to put her down at 4pm but she refuse to sleep . . . she looked tired. ..  in the end she slept only at 6.30pm (wanted to keep her within the 12 hr rule as she woke up at 7am)

At night she cried at 9pm was awake but sleepy . . . . fed her at 10pm and went to sleep woke up at 12.30am pat back to sleep woke up at 3am BF and she woke up at 5.30am . . .then refuse to sleep . . . come to think of it might have to jostle her for the 12.30 NW. . .

I thought that she would be tired becuase she didn't nap in the pm and she would not wake up so early. . . is she one of those LOs who doesn't need alot to sleep? or should I cut the am nap to 1.5 hr instead?

Today (mon) she also had a 4.5hr A time. . . should I try to push it back to 5hr. . . or leave it until she pushes it back herself?

Hi LiSure.  If she's doing 4.5 hours of A time and has a 2 hour nap, then I would craft a one nap routine as follows:

wake 6.30am, BF and solids 30 mins later
A 4.5 hours
E  10.30 BF
S 11.00 -1.00 (2 hours)

E  1.00 Solids
A  4.5/5 hours
E  BF 2.30, Solids 5.00
S  BF and asleep by 5.30/6.00pm

The trick is to be flexible and create a routine that will allow your LO to be neither UT or OT by bedtime.  When trialling a one nap day, you need to put her to bed earlier if required.  For example, if her nap is only short (ie 1 hour), then still only allow 4-4.5 hours A time and go for a super early bedtime.

Let me know how it goes.  I think she just might be ready.

Thanks for the routine :) you've been a great help really appreciate it :)

DD took a 1.5 hr morning nap today from 10 to 11.30am she was constantly yawning after her luch so I put her to sleep at 2.30pm and woke her up after 45 min . . . I tried to put her down at 5.30pm for her sleep since she woke up at 5.30am but she fought and cried and finally slept at 7pm. . .

I've got 3 quesitons:

1)  Is 1.5hr considered short for a morning nap?

2)  Is 45 min nap in the afternoon too long for her. . . is that the reason why she only slept at 7pm?

3)  If she naps for 2hr in the am and is tired in the afternoon. . . how long should her nap be?

Thanks :)

1.5 hour am nap is perfect.  30 min pm nap - 1 hour pm nap is also in the range.  So it all looks good to me.

I really think she is a 13 hour day girl at the moment...so if she wakes at 5.30am, I would aim for a 6.30pm bedtime.  She'll probably settle much quicker for you.  Also...if she had a nap from 2.30 - 3.15, then you only gave her 2 hours 15 mins A time before bed (which is way too short for her).  Since she fell asleep at 7.00pm, then this is almost 4 hours since her pm nap.  So stick with the cues she is giving you.  Make sure that she wakes from her pm nap at least 4 hours prior to when you want to put her to bed (using the 13 hour rule... you can work backwards).  Does this make sense?

When you find a routine that works, stick with it.  Wake her up at 1.5 hours for her am nap (don't let it go to 2 hours if it's stuffing up the rest of your day).  If 4 hours pm A time works for her prior to bedtime...then stick to it.  So based on today...your routine might look like this:

wake 5.30am, BF and solids 30 mins later
A 4.5 hours
E  9.30 BF
S 10.00 -11.30 (1.5 hours)

E  12.30 Solids. BF 2.00
A  3 hours
S  2.30 - 3.00 (30 mins)
A  3.5 hours
E  Solids 5.30
S  BF and asleep by 6.30/7.00pm

On days where she only has one nap...then go for an 11/12 hour day.  It might cycle around a little, but if you follow her cues you should be OK.  Keep me posted.

Thanks for the routine will stick to it today and will let you know how it goes tomorrow :) I agree with you that she is an 13 hr girl. . . it will be good if she can take that short pm nap so that I can take a breather :)

She was UT yesterday everytime she woke up at night she played half and hr before she wanted her feed. . .  she keeps waking up at 5am+ . . . just wondering will she ever wake up later anymore. . .

She will wake up later.  Don't worry, this is just a phase and it passes.

Once she goes to one nap per day, she'll probably sleep 12+ hours at night.  I don't think she's too far away given that she likes 4+ hour A times.

That's good news :)

followed the routine . . . her morning nap was around 1hr 15min pm nap was 45min (wanted to wake her up at 30min but I fall asleep . . . she woke me up instead :) )

DD slept at 7.10pm . . . cried at 8 and 10pm but pat her back to sleep . . . will pray and cross my fingers and hope that she'll just feed and sleep and won't wake up to play. . .

Good morning :)

Surprise surprise . . DD slept all the way without a feed till 4am :) (I was awake at 3am . . . kept on checking on her made sure that she was alright. . . just couldn't believe that she could last so long . . . from 7pm) after half and hour of feeding (longest so far) I took me another half an hour of patting before she went back to sleep she woke up at 7am today :) . . .  so is her 4am EW or NW?

If she wakes up at 7am if I stick to yesterday's routine . . .am I suppose to put her to sleep by 8pm (isn't that a bit too late)?

Today her am A time was back to 4 hr . . . will update you again :)

Feel so refresh waking up at 7am again :)

That's great and the 4am wake up is a NW...not an EW.  So you would start your day at 7.00am and have her in bed somewhere between 7-8pm at night.  When she goes to bed will be dependent upon her day naps and her last A time.

Hi

DD didn't take the pm nap yesterday . . . or rather my ML came and kept playing with her until it was past her nap time. . . I put her down at 6.30pm. . .

She slept well until . . . she was sleepy but she couldn't sleep it was too noisy to sleep (neighbours) from 9 to 11pm. . . Fed her at 11pm

BF her at 4am and she woke up at 7am today. . .

But because of yesterday her A time only lasted 3 hrs . . . so do I stretch her afternoon A time to 4.5 hr instead and give her a later pm nap?
I will try my very best to do every little thing with great love . . .
