Am I ever glad I found this forum! My dd is now 7wks old on Thursday. I havent kept track of how much she eats per feeding (mentally though sometimes its 4.5oz others its 1oz, probably because I misread her but anyway). I really want her to sleep through the night. That being said, She wont eat regularily.. What do I mean by that.. Well typicaly this is her schedule....(this was todays schedule because I can remember it)

10pm is bed time. This is when she has her last feed, bath, cuddle and to bed.
2:30am or 3am wake up - eats about 3 oz.
5am - wakes up eats 1 or 2 oz
7am - wakes up but wont eat, plays for an hour
8am sleeps until 11am.
11am - eats a 4.5 oz bottle.. would eat more Im sure if I put more in there.
1:30pm- wakes up, only ate 1 oz
Stayed up until 2:15pm, yawned a lot, put her back down to nap...
Now she's napping again!

Up until a couple days ago she used to go in 3-4 hour cycles. I could read this little girl like a book....now her day resembles nothing of a schedule and I dont know what Ive done!

Any input?

I took chart of how much my 7wk old baby girl (11lbs) ate yesterday. She only ate 18.75 oz of formula. She slept from 10pm to 3am, then 3:30am to 6:15am.
This is how she ate. Any input is appreciated. (right before her 7am feed I should point out she ate 4.5oz at 2:30am

7am 1oz
11am 4.5oz
1:30pm 2oz
3:30pm 2oz
5:30pm 2oz
7:30pm 2oz
10pm 3oz
3am 3.25oz
6:15am 3.5oz

It looks like if she eats 3 oz she will be content for that many hours .. 3! Does that sound typical? Why can't I get her to eat more?

Im trying to put her on the 3 hour EASY today. So far, 6:15am she at 3.5 oz. And that was quite a struggle, she ate the first 2oz really quick, then started to squirm. So I burped her, loud burp, tried to feed her again and she gave me a look that could peirce steel! But I persisted and she finally took another 1.5oz (wouldnt burp after). Im still using the Gerber Newborn nipples. Should I switch to a medium flow maybe? Is she getting bored with having to really suck hard? Maybe she just is not a big eater? Is there such a thing?

My LO is drinking 5-6 oz every three hours and sometimes goes 4-5 hours between feeds but mainly at night.  Should I be concerned that he's taking in too much, he's only 2 months now.  I think he's getting a little too heavy.  I am concerned that I may be raising a hefty child.   :-\   It's hard to regulate his feeds a lot of times because he goes to daycare during the day.  I am a military mom so I am out the door by 5am and back hom to pick him up from daycare at 6pm.  Is it possible to cut back if I am indeed giving him too much?

magda1461 - can you post your routine with amounts of formula so we can help you better?

JSapatu - I personally would regulate or cut back on feeds, your LO only takes what he needs. Cutting back may cause problems and he will wake MORE in the night. If he drains any bottles increase them by 1oz at a time.

DS was bf except for 4oz formula/4oz ebm at his df until 7.5 months.  We started cereal at 4.5 months and regular solids at 6 months.  He is just 10 months old and thriving - 24 lbs and 29" as of last week's dr.'s appt.  I have now weaned him to a 7am and 7pm bf and then offer a bottle of formula at 11:30am and before him pm nap at about 2:30pm.  He usually takes 7-8oz from each of those two bottles.  Is he getting too much right now on top of his solids?

Hello... My 12 weeks old is only taking in 2.5-3oz of formula every 3 hour (7,10,1,4,7 + dream feed between 10-11).  She refuses to take more than 3 oz. That is her max. That means in 24 hrs, she takes in about 17-19 ozs.  Is that ok?? How do I teach her to take more??

Thanks!

RNG:  My 7 month old is only taking max 28oz...usually less.  When she was younger she barely drank 4oz at a time.  I think as long as your lo is gaining weight and thriving she is fine.  She knows how much she needs and may just have a tiny tummy.   :D

Is it possible that when a baby is sick that he/she eats less?  My LO was eating 7oz every feed for about 4 or 5 times a day.  He just recovered from a bad cold and he is still takin in less and less each feed sometimes refusing the bottle altogether.  He is almost 4 months old.

It is definetely possible: My LO is almost 8 months old and recently went through "still does a little" a LONG stage of refusing to eat her fruits and veggies and for like 3 days straight would hardly drink her bottles. She'd have the occasional full bottle but the rest of the time would refuse or only drink 1-2 oz. That was because she was teething and at one point she had a double ear infection. With ear infections and teething or any not feeling well stuff will certainly change there appetite. My LO was in a GREAT AWESOME mood, but her teeth must of been bothering her because even than she was barely eating. She's doing much much better now.

Olivia took maybe 3 oz at a time (2.5-3.5 hrs)up until 8 mos, maybe 6oz during growth spurts, for 1 or two feeds...just what she needed. She's t28months & since 15 months old she eats like a champ & is so petite, go figure ???

Grace's Mom:  Thanks for your reply.  :) It is very reassuring to know that other moms have some what the same problem.  It is true, as long as baby is triving, happy and healthy, how much she takes in is up to the baby.  Once again, thanks!  I can sleep peacefully now.
