I sing You are my sunshine to my ds when calming him down in his crib if he's a bit upset.  Never had a song for my dd though and now she just says "Mummy no singing" when I join in her CD's.  Don't you just love 'em!!!

Ack!  I've been trying for the life of me to remember that song.

Thank you!

Oh!  For all of you who have little boys, we sing "When you Dream" by the Barenaked Ladies...

"With life just begun, my sleeping new son
has eyes that roll back in his head
They flutter and dart, he slows down his heart
and pictures a world past his bed..."

Beautiful.

OMG I am all choked up reading these!!  I sing to dd all the time..."Everything" by Michael Buble is a favorite...it's "our song"!!!

Also...one I made up...
"A" is for the awesome way you smile
"M" is many years I prayed for you
"E" is every day you just get sweeter
"L" is for the love we give to you
"I" is I will always be beside you
"A" is you will always be my girl....

Put them all together that's AMELIA...the very best baby in the world.   *sniff*   (she loves her little song, tries to sing it with me)

Nowadays for wind-down, she knows that when we start our prayers that's it's bedtime....we start by saying "Thank you God for this beautiful day..." and she puts her head right down on my chest, and picks it up at the end to say "AMEN!" and takes out her bink to kiss me.

I love her so much it makes me weak in the knees!

That is awesome and it made me cry too!

Does anyone ever do a "what we are thankful for" routine at night in place of prayers?  I've always wanted to impliment it to centre and focus our day but feel a bit lost as to how to start/silly.

Yes, we do that! Our prayer always starts with "Thank you God for this beautiful day, thank you that we have each other, thank you that we are all healthy, thank you for all the food we ate, and for all the drinks we drank...
That part never changes, and that's where we get specific depending on what went on that day, like "thank you for a fun visit with my cousins, thank you for the ducks we fed today, they were so cute! Thank you for the rain so we can see more flowers....."
Than we go through the "God Bless Mommy and Daddy and Amelia, and our whole family and all of our friends ( we add a person in here or two that might be sick, or going through troubles)  And we end by saying "And please bless everyone who is not as fortunate as us."

Than dd says "AAAAAA-MEN!"   (and Mommy gets weak from the cuteness)   :D

Okay, so as embarrassing as this might be to admit... Does anyone remember the scene in Mary Poppins when she gets Jane and Michael to go to sleep???  Well, that little song she sang came on one day when I had been thinking of a special lullaby to sing to JoHanna. SOOOO, it got stuck in my head and now I sing it to her before every nap.  :)

Stay awake, don't rest your head
Don't lie down upon your bed
As the moon drifts through the sky
Stay awake, don't close your eyes

Though the world is fast asleep
Though your pillow is soft and deep
You're not sleepy as you seem
Stay awake, Don't nod and dream
Stay awake, Don't nod and dream.

I could see where the reverse psychology might get consfusing to her when she gets older and understands what I am saying  :P... We also do Amazing Grace so that if someone else ever has to put her down for a nap, she hears something familiar.  :)
