BF won't take any formula from cup...
« on: August 02, 2008, 19:47:02 pm »
Hello I was hoping someone may be able to help me with this.  My baby is 10 and a half months old and has only had breastmilk from me.  He has never had a bottle.  I would like to give up some feeds and would like him to take formula.  I have been trying to introduce milk via various cups since he was 6 mths, he just spits the formula out...He has teeth now and feeding is not that comfie!!  Does anyone know how much milk he needs at 1 year?

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated xx

It depends on his solid intake. At 12 months around 18oz is a rough guide. You could trying offering ebm in the cup initially and then gradually adding in some formula and then increasing the quantity.
I'm going to pop this over to the bottle feeding board for you. There is some advice about sippy cups and encouraging babies to take formula there.
Good luck.

My opinion is she is so close to 1yr i would give EBM in a cup and then go straight to cows milk at 1yr old.

Ok thank you for that...how much cow's milk should they have at 1 year?  I would prefer to give formula over cow's milk but either way bub is still going to have to drink from a cup, do oyu know any cups which are easier than others?  We have tried so many...Thank you!! xx

At 1yr old 16ozs milk is fine if they are drinking a little less and having lots of other dairy that is fine.
Both my girls go better drinking milk from a sippy cup that is free flow and not non spill. Also have you tried a straw cup?
