What's gone wrong?
« on: August 05, 2008, 21:57:44 pm »
My 7mo dd has been on solids since around 6mo and has always taken them fine.  The last few days she has been crying when I'm feeding her, she does like the food because she has eaten them on previous days.  The only way I can get through a meal successfully is by singing to her  ???

Am I doing something wrong?

7.30am - Porridge, 8oz milk (no tears)
11.30am - pureed veg, pureed fruit, 4oz milk
4.00pm - pureed veg, pureed fruit or fruity porridge, 4oz milk
6.30pm - 8oz milk

I give DD solids first followed by milk (middle 2 feeds she won't take anymore than 4oz) All food (except porridge) is made at home, DD is not keen on bought jar food.

Any ideas?

Could be any number of things, babies' appetites vary just like adults' do, could be illness/pain (teeth?), tiredness, distraction by other things, a developmental phase - all sorts, but the main thing is, not to worry :)

Babies don't really need solid food until 12 months for nutrition, it all comes from the milk (formula), so if dd has a dip in appetite, just with all things BW, follow her cues, don't force it, make sure she maintains her milk intake, and she'll regain her appetite when whatever the issue is has passed - promise :) it's more important that she feels that you trust her instincts and feels in control of her food intake, than that she has loads of solids!
