2 Year Old Refusing Naps
« on: August 07, 2008, 17:49:32 pm »
My child has always been a great sleeper and kid in general. But now that she is nearly 2 and a half, its all broke lose. She is now refusing to nap. We do the same routine, wind down, ect. Nothing has changed. She just refuses. I know she is tired...it is obvious. She's always done well falling asleep on her own, and does so at night. She needs the nap, just won't do it. Rolls around in her bed and sings and talks for 2 hours then I eventually just let her out.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Or do I just need to accept it and move on?

If anyone has success stories or went through this and eventually it resolved itself....any input, please post.

It seems like both my girls went through phases of refusing naps and sometimes bed times but I just stuck to it so they knew they weren't getting out of it. my 23mo old will do the exact thing(stays in her crib but babbles or plays) at least it is down time for her and you. she does it especially if she falls asleep in the car on our way home, even for a few minutes.

hi, my ped. warned me this might happen with our lo, and it hasn't happened more than once yet, so I'm not exactly qualified to answer here, but she recommended sticking to the plan for naptime without fail, and even if they just have quiet time, it's better than nothing.  She also advocates quiet time even after they no longer need naps, so stick with it!

What is your LO's routine? Maybe she needs a little more A time before nap?

Or a little less funnily enough! I had this same problem - then I moved nap time earlier and he mostly goes off like a dream!
