7 month old - crying after naps
« on: August 13, 2008, 21:13:00 pm »
My LO takes 3 naps during the day but usually wakes from each one crying.  It wasn't until I read many posts that actually I now think my LO needs more sleep and that is why she is crying. Her naps range from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours.
I have just been going in, picking her up comforting and distracting her until she has stopped crying, then taking her downstairs.
What should I be doing? Do I need to encourage her to sleep more?  How?

Is she crying after waking from all naps even if she had a nice long one? If she wakes crying after 30-45mins then it means she is still tired and needs help getting back to sleep. Babies often wake from a nap crying it isn't that unusual.

I agree with Natasha. If the LO has had a 30-45 minute nap and wakes upset, you can try to help her go back to sleep with the pat/shh method.  If you're not familiar with it, there's some info here:

The cries generally come after a short nap (less than 45 minutes) and she is very upset for quite a while so she probably is still tired.  Sometimes if she has long sleep she wakes 'chatting' and making cooing noises.  Sounds like I need to look at the pat/shh link.  Thank you.
